I doubt however it's going to make a dent in the Super Computer top 100. It sure as hell ain't going to beat that Japanese monster.

The Japanese made an order of magnitude increase in processing power and you think this toy from SGI is leading edge? LOL

SGI is rapidly becoming the transmeta of super computer manafacturers. There product fills a very small niche, yet all the stupid kids like you think they're so neat.

As an aside the open critical component in a supercomputer is memory, fast memory, whith out that it matters not a jot how quickly your processors work. So what is the memory bandwidth of this baby?

Elections are not meant to smooth anything out. They are meant to be a way to elect our goverment. Currently they elect the incumbent and/or the wealthy. Joe public has no voice in our goverment.

And the Amercian public were sufficiently gullible not to throw Bush out on his ear. Hey, there might be a lot of similarities between Bush and Hitlers elections.

Bureaucracy is not goverment but rather the infrastructure to allow the geoverment to rule and I agree the should be based on higher test scores. This is how most unelected positions are filled in the UK it's called the civil service.

Elections are un-democratic in that less than half of all eleigable voters vote. Elections are being used to give the illusion of democracy and are in fact returning the same old farts time after time.

I still think that the lottery would be the best way to choose a goverment, radicals would still be isolated just as they are in mainstream society. It would also mean we would have a much closer mix of gender/race/religion in goverment to that in the general population. Think of it as a microcosim of America.

Politcal seats are won in a lottery. Everybody eligable to hold office is thrown into a draw. No more career politicans, no more family dynasty.

The best thing is that the goverment becomes very much like the general population. If this is not what you want then are you really in support of democracy?

It is the same way we draw jurors so why not politicans?

The revolution will be in revenue.

Currently IBM big customers buy a new machine every four years or so, they pay a yearly maintenance bill. IBM has trouble predicting it's revenue quarter to quarter, in a downturn everyone stops capital expenditure and IBM mainframe sales plummet.

Under this model everyone should pay less but they'll pay every month like clockwork.

Computer Associates has a similar scheme for software. You rent your software on a monthly basis.

On a technical level I'm all for it. I have a suite in my current site that is run yearly and takes for ever. Currently IBM has a big box sitting here and we just sip from it, until year end when we max it out for like two weeks. Let me rent time on a huge box and I'll be happy. Gurantee my data and response time and I'll be ecstatic.

You have a two party system because it's modeled on Westminster.

The current system has virtually no input from the population and is becoming more and more like the royal courts of Europe used to be. A quick example is the number of career politicans and the number of Father/Son teams. Republican = Democrat there is so little difference as to be insulting.

You can stick your head in the sand and trot out the party line about democracy, freedom, liberty etc but please do not try and use examples to back you up that you obiuosly have not researched.

Research how closely related by blood American politicans are to European. Then go on to research where your current politicans were educated? Then see if you can guess why the population of America has virtually no say in their goverment or laws?

The two part system gives the illusion of a democracy when in reality all we do is change dictators.
