> How do you track the same bug across multiple versions of a product [in Bugzilla]
there's a few ways..
what i generally recommend is created a new bug for each version (bugzilla's clone feature helps lots here). the reason why i suggest this you should expect the actual code changes to be different with different versions of your code.
if you're using bugzilla to track code reviews and testing, then you really *have* to have seperate bugs to manage the full process.
normally i'd create a bug against the main version, and then clone it to cover the backported patches. cloning automatically puts a "clone of bug NNN" as the default comment 0 (or words to that effect). i don't use dependancies to track the links across versions.
another method is to use bugzilla's flags. create a set of flags such as "fixed in version 1", "fixed in version 2", and set them where appropiate. personally, not a fan, as it make generating reports on things like average time-to-fix difficult to generate.
another option is to code up the ability to switch "version" and "milestone" files from single to multiple values, and submit the bug back to bugzilla.
one of the goals for bugzilla 2.18 was to have almost "out of the box" windows support. this was achieved, with the only workaround being the sendmail stub (bugzilla still has/usr/lib/sendmail hardcoded).
recently there's been a lot of activity in bringing the documtation up to speed, ready for the 2.20 release.

IM spam is low because most clients allow you to only receive IMs from someone on your contact list, and you need to approve someone before adding them to your contact list.
imaging the effects on spam if every email client used whitelisting and trusted senders.
"undoubtedly call a tool whose sole purpose is to illicitly distribute copyrighted works"
uhh, waste is for small workgroups only..
WASTE is a software product and protocol that enables secure distributed communication for small (on the order of 10-50 nodes) trusted groups of users.
it's not about p2p file sharing, rather it's a colaborative tool.
sure, you could use to to share illegal stuff, but it's really no different in that respect to email, icq, whatever.
> Sure, if it's open source, then one paying customer can take the source and fork it back out to everybody else for gratis
correct; mysql have the same business model, and there are places where you can legally grab the enterprise editions.
yeah, filtered glasses won't catch on at home. polarised filters are better than colour filters, but still, meh.
in a home setting i expect to see an uptake of lcd blackout glasses; expensive but home cinema fans are already used to buying expensive toys :)
i'm willing to bet there's a massive market in 3d sports broadcasting.

you'll be amazed as to the levels that microsoft have gone to in order to achieve this goal.

legally you can't do that with mysql. in order to bundle mysql with a product, that product must be gpl. bugzilla is mpl.
thanks for pointing that out.

while we're bursting bubbles, the patch from microsoft contains a tool that scans your hard disk for all vulnerable gdi dlls.
i agree 100%

as a developer i want compilation to be a quick as possible.
also i make heavy use of vmware, which needs as much grunt as it can get.

that's right. that's what we shorten world wide web (three syllables) to www (nine syllables).
go figure
i recommend you look at paxscript.
it's the most complete and quickest of any embedded source stuff that we've investigated.
supports basic, c, objectpascal (ie delphi) and javascript.
not free, but you get the source when you purchase it (US$179).
delphi and borland c++ builder only.
It would be nice if there was a review somewhere from somebody who had actually used the product.. or even just some screenshots?
here's a swf demo of it.
it's just slow at downloading.
% 20Turbo%20Demo.swf
i'm only getting 13k/s.
fyi the direct link to the swf is http://www.borland.com/cbuilderx/tour/C++BuilderX

i've installed blackboard more than once.
it's mainly perl (on apache with mysql).
one component (tutornet) is java.

>how can I block those HTTP refferer things?
they are presented to a cgi script in the HTTP_REFERER environmental variable
>Does the browser produce them?
yes
>It has to, right?
no. and even if it does, there's no guarentee it's valid. it's trivial to fake.
>Are there any browsers out there that allow you to "play" with that information?
most "downloaders" let you set it explicitly. wget can.
i have seen browsers which slap a simple interface around the IE engine that allow you to explicitly set the referer. can't find them now, of course.
>Why not simply put the destination site into every referrer you send? You'd be telling the site that you've already be there.
indeed. when i'm leeching stuff with wget, this is exactly what i do.
>I can't think of any specific reason to do that, just a fun exercise.
some sites still use it as a means of authentication.
a lot of sites that host, uh, pictures, require referer to be sent on the image request to stop other sites linking directly to the images.
