The people who maintain the firewall need to know about the autoupdate, so that they can block it at the firewall.
Could you block the windows updates and still let other http through though? I'm not a networking expert but if it uses port 80 then there is no way to stop it right?
People seem to think that this was some unexpected oversight; it was nothing of the sort.
But if it wasn't an oversight, why wasn't this optimization clearly documented? If you knew it would have to be fixed in 25 years then surely you would have written a document describing the changes needed to bring it up to 2k compliance.
With IE i can put all of my menus and toolbars on the same small row, just under the window's titlebar. This saves a lot of space, escpecially at 800x600.
I tried to get Mozilla to do this but it appeared that I had to hack around with some css files. After much searching I could not find adequate documentation, so a gave up.
I consider myself a reasonable programmer with a fair bit of experience. I am currently writing an NDIS Intermediate kernel driver for win2k, which is far from simple.
If I can't do something in Mozilla which takes my grandma 3 clicks in IE, then there's something wrong.
I love and would use Mozilla if it weren't for this problem.
You're right. I mean you'd have to be crazy to think that Microsoft would enhance a standard for any other reason than a feeling of pure altruism toward the protocol.
When trying to imagine a large number dimensions i find it easy to think in 'digital' dimensions.
I.e. imagine one dimensions as a list of dots spaced evenly across the screen. Two dimensions would be that list repeated down the screen, forming a 2d grid.
Three dimensions would be that grid repeated across the screen a certain number of times. 4d would be that resulting object repeated down the screen. 5d would be that repeated across the screen etc.
Even though it's hard to extrapolate that to real (analog) dimensions, I find it helps.
Ahh. Nothing brings out the trolls like a fresh Mozilla bug.
u r so rght bro!
And then the spammers will have a rolling number in each email to make them unique.
Until it gets blocked.
Now that is a real crime, not allowing the use of USENET for programming help.
In fact, e-mail me if you get desperate and need someone to search the groups for you.
I'm sure it states that authentication is required though.

And if you think the trolls here put in a lot of time, check the comments section on that first site.
Bravo sir!
I did it once, 8 months ago. NEVER AGAIN.
Well said big guy.
They don't need to steal code, they have enough smart people to work on things.

*end rant*
That link just took me back to this slashdot article?
Can you expand on that a bit? I can't think of how anyone could defraud it.
I thought there was no difference between a 'function' and a function pointer?
Calm down now, everything is going to be ok. Just step into the car...that's it. We're going on a little trip to a place we like to call 'The Island'.
Thankyou. That was an enjoyable read that I totally agree with.

Funny, same thing is happening in Australia.
How is it ironic though exactly?
A better solution might be to allow paying members to donate 'credits' to posters if they feel it was a worthy post. On a different system than karma.
