How about toss the dope out the window, I have not driven through this particular check point in about 6 years, but when I was last there they had signs up miles in advance saying all I-10 traffic must exit at check the point..
Perhaps some are about 75 miles from the border, howver at least one example on that map makes such exception understandable. Namely the one in Marfa, TX, sure it is a good way from the border, howerver going south out of Marfa all those miles to the Mexican border is only one narrow highway winding through the mountains, when I drove it (and had a flat tire on it) about 15 years ago there was nothing south of Marfa (Marfa is not much of a town either, maybe 1 or 2 motels, and that is aout it, the only place to buy a tire there 15 years ago was a little old full service garage/service station) until you reach the border, no homes, not stores, barely any place to pull over and change a flat for that matter.
Marijuana possesion, can result in highly variable punishments depending on jurisdiction, meaning in some location it is treated about like a speeding ticket with a small fine, in others it may mean near maditory jail time, with potential alternatives like rehab or treatment / awareness programs. A decade or so ago a newphew of mine was in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and the passenger in his car had a personal use amount on him that he threw under the seat when the police ticketed them for a parking violation, searched the car and found the joint under the seat. As a result my newphew spent Mardi Gras weekend in jail in New Orleans, as a first offense he was given a suspended sentence which was removed from his record after a year with no other legal problems, and he had to take some sort of drug awareness class and check in with a probabtion officer.
The reality is the west Texas I-10 check point outside El Paso may be 30-40 miles from the city, but that stretch of I-10 closely (within 2-5 miles) parallel's the border for about 50-60 miles, and the checkpoint is located where the highway/border start to diverege.
Have you even looked at a photo of the thing, it does not look at all like a typical camera, it is a short square tube, lacking a card slot is the least of its feature problems.
At this point just over 25 years out, if the odds go up next year, then just send a spacecraft to splatter a few gallons of white paint on it and let the solar wind reflection push it an extra fraction of a percent and move it however many thousands/millions of miles in the next quarter century.
Let us say this right, They want to remove paper money from the hands of U.S. citizens, going electronic will do nothing to stop large cash transactions around the world, they will just switch to British Pounds, or even Hondoran Limpira
No matter where you are, you are always firing towards a highway, it is just a matter of distance. For small game birdshot has a lethal range about the same as typical person throw a baseball, these are very small pellets, think large grains of sand.
I know I am responding to an AC, but I just want to point out that a common BB is an actual size of shotgun shot, at least 7 sizes larger than the range common bird shot, bird shot is closer to the size of a large grain of sand.
Well AIDS was made mostly survivable by 2000 or so and nuclear power plants would probably be a lot more advanced today if we had not stopped building them in the early 1980's
My personal guess is film will be dead, or at least relegated to the realms of artist and art students within the next decade, higher end digital imagers are now almost to the point of exceeding the capabilities of film in every aspect of photography, it is just a matter of time for Moore's law to do its thing before the capabilities of these $8,000+ cameras are seen in the $400 - $800 semi-serious cameras.
Kodak's decline goes back 30 years or more, I personally think it began with their ill fated Kodamatic (Polaroid clone) and having to pull it from the market after loosing a major patent infringement case to Polaroid. Since then it has been one bad move after another, does anyone remember the much hypes Kodak disc camera? The only good thing they had going was their high end multi thousand dollar CCD imager division which they completely failed to convert to market dominance in the consumer digital camera revolution. Sure their were also many background failures like not keeping up with Fuji and others in the 1-hour photo market in an attempt to maintain their major mail out photo lab processing centers, etc.
One thing to remember about astronomy clubs is that excluding ones associated with universities the average member age is very old. If you go to the average club meeting it is rare to see anyone that does not have gray hair, many of these people are retired, and are living on fixed income.
My concern on this is it mistaking an intentional action for unintentional drifting and compensating, like slowly moving over to the edge of a lane to avoid debris in the road, particularly under slippery conditions.
My state is doing the same sort of money grab, first they add a fee for online transactions (everything from online car registration renewal to hunting licenses), and now they have added a in office fee if you choose to go into the DMV office to get these same types of services in person. So now you pay extra to pay your fees online, by mail, or in person.
I have to wonder what sort of spin they would put on it if the alternate heasline outcome happend: Greenpeace Activist Shot While breaking into Nuclear Power Plant?
Why do you think Reuters "HAD A RIGHT TO KNOW"? , where is this right? I don't remember anything in the bill of rights saying the government is responsible for telling anyone what it knows, certainly not a foreign news organization.
Wow it must be nice living on the kinds of drugs you must taking to now to see that transmitting to a non authorized entity is RELEASING documents. It is not a matter of being trusted, I am sure lots of people trusted the KGB 50 years ago too, that did not make them authorized to view hundreds of thousands of cables, and getting caught transmitting to them would have almost certainly found you put on trial for treason.
Gas in water wells does exist in some places, my mother tells stores of growing up in the 1940's and 50's in an area where the school kids would light the gas that built up in the school water fountains over the weekends.
This checkpoint is on I-10 just east of an area where I-10 paralells within sight of the Mexican border for around 40 miles.
How about toss the dope out the window, I have not driven through this particular check point in about 6 years, but when I was last there they had signs up miles in advance saying all I-10 traffic must exit at check the point..
That would be old style airport private security guards, the movie was made MANY years before the TSA was created.

And do you really think those "creators" amount to more than 1% of the current population?
Don't forget the ads with the grand kids walking around a waste land with gas masks (hmmm wonder if that is where Terra Nova fot the idea?)

True, but associated risk / repair costs are much lower

Around here the problem is the big hit movies stop playing after 2-3 weeks in order to show the next new big hit movie on 6+ screens
