Now that we have an PCM capable pc speaker driver, who writes a driver for this nice printer port DACs some people made out of some resitors ?
I read somewhere that they sounded better than the first pc sound cards. Now it is actually hard to belive that the simplest soundcard have cost $150 and up. They couldn't even do stereo. And at the same time a amiga had hardware wavetable-capable sound hardware.
I don't know how it is in the US, but here in germany you have the right to do so. If you have 500 old PCs with 500 win98 licenses you are allowed to scrap the old PCs and buy new PCs and use your win98 licenses on them. There might be difference with a site license but with simple retail or oem licenses this is legal in germany.
Microsoft tried to sue a few computer resellers that sold windows oem licenses without PC, microsoft lost in the court. When you buy software in germany it is yours and you are allowed to do with it whatever you like, but things that are forbidden by other laws like the copyright laws.
A lawyer looked at the product activation system in Windows XP, and he said that he thinks that this product activation system is against the law in germany, because it prevents you from selling it to someone else.
>They include AMD's plans to ship a 1.4GHz Athlon chip this quarter
Well, that chip is already available at the local computer store.(on the bottom of the page) 660 DM are about $300.
Well, FTL isn't really needed, even with this "global speedlimit" you can thereoriticaly fly from every point to every other point in this universe in every time you want. It is "no" problem to travel 20 million lightyears in a second. If you accelerate to some point slightly under the speed of the light, the distances will shorten in a way that you can reach that point that was 20 million lightyears away before you accelerated, without getting faster than the light. Well, the problem is that for your friends on the earth over 20 million years have passed when you reach your destination. FTL travel will get you nowhere, or to some complex space coordinates. All these stupid scifi authors that are writing that FTL travel will let you travel back in time.
Well, inside of japan your explanation is true, but outside of japan, in the US and Europe, this term is often used as for somethings that is very close to anime geek.
There is a problem with your argumentation, not all people do really want to discuss their opinions. Many people get really fanatic about an idea they started to belive. You can tell them thousands of good argumentations and they won't change they opinion, because if they change their opinion, they must agree that they made a mistake and in most people do not like to make mistakes. If their were only people that give the opinions of other people a fair chance, I agree with you that it is bad make such laws that restrict the free speach, but there aren't only such people. I think it is bad when the first one that convinces someone on his view of nazi germany is nazi. If a person is already convinced in such a way, it will be hard to get him to change his opinion. (It will also be hard to change the opinion of someone that is convinced in the way the school teaches him, but I think it that isn't really bad.) If people get convinced of something when they are young, it is extra hard to change their opinion later. If the school fails to convine him, it is nice, in my opinion, to make it harder for a nazi to convince him, even if that restricts his free speach.
PS: Of cause I don't want to be unfair to you and when you have really good arguments, maybe I will agree with you.
Well, sure I do not know if this happened in exactly the same way as it is described in schoolbooks or varios other sources, but you could not deny that the nazi have killed many many jews during the Worldwar II. If someone says, well I think it wasn't in the way the schoolbook described, I think they did it in this way. Ok, fine. Maybe I will trust him or maybe not. But if someone says, for example, the nazis were all such nice persons, the jews all killed themself.
I think it is unfair for all people that were killed by the nazi to allow such a twisting of the history. There are many points of view, but I think there must be some borders.
It is very limited which sites could be against german law. It isn't really hard to make a nazi site without breaking the german law. Just don't use symbols of nazi germany and do not lie the holocaust. I think everyone could live good with the little restrictions of free speach here. There isn't any really difference between the prohibition of using symbols of nazi germany and the way that big companies are protecting their trademarks and brands. They are doing it because of other motivations but in the end, it is almost the same.
In the past Otto Schilly was a lawyer that defended left terrorits in the court. Now after many years, he is a minister and now he has often very conservative conceptions. He even changed from the green party to the social democratic party, but now he often makes suggestion that were much more conservative, than the suggestions of the main conservative party in germany, the cdu.
Here in germany, there is only one big dsl service for consumers. It is called T-DSL and is capped at 768/128. They say it is capped in that way because they could run this configuration over nearly every line in a city in germany and so they do not need to send a technican to meassure the line parameters. There DSL service is cheap ($30 for all, modem+isp). But I think it is very bad that there is only one widely aviable dsl service here. If you want faster speeds you must get a leased line or an dsl service for businesses. If you do not need more than 768/128, you get it cheap, but if you want a bit more you pay a big deal more.
Wrong, it is already done.
You could easily do all this and more with squid. Simply setup a transparent proxy on your firewall/router. Then you could install an universal redirector and let the redirector scan for your blockwords in the url. (lets say: porn) If the redirector founds a blockword in the url let it redirect it to a page stateting that this paged is blocked. If you want to scan all the html pages for content you want to censor simply redirect all.html pages to a cgi-bin running on the firewall that downloads the pages and checks them before it lets them through. That will be a few lines of perl code, nearly everyone that has some perl coding should be able to do this in a few minutes.
I'm using somethings that is very similar to this to block banners in my webpages.
I think it could be a lot of fun develop things on. I think it development on it has many similarities to demo and game programming on the pc a few years ago.
You have a fast cpu but the rest of hardware is dump and couldn't do much for you and you have old compatiblity stuff all around you.
I think everyone that has some done some game/demo/gfx programming in 1994 or so should try to programm on it. The hardware is cheap and an selfmade flashrom adapter or a thing like this shouldn't be very hard to do, maybe it has already show up on the net.
I think you could do a lot of things you don't think to be possible if you do good asm optimizing and some register tweaking. (And you have two cpus !)
Hey, that arguments remind me of some of the greats faults in cryptography. Your argument is basicaly the same as security through obscurity.
deCSS has clearly shown that this principle doesn't work. Blowfish, AES, TEA, RSA,... and are all completly documented cryptos that remain unbroken. (At least with an good key length)
You could easly change ip_masq.h to use "normal" port nummbers, making an NAT (almost) undetectable. After make this change there I do not know any methode to detect you running an NAT without making many mistakes.
Nice idea, but i will not work good in when you get an head crash.
If the head on the on side crashs, it is very likely that the other head crashes too.
If only on head crashs, the head will slow down the platter because he is scratching on the side.
I think Raid 5 without a spare, is a way that maybe must be done to increase the memory density even more. Look at the Caches of the CPUs, they are using ECC there, because they couldn't build SRAM that works reliable at these speeds.
The article says that AMD will buy them if their share drop.
Cool, but not really ASCII
on
The ASCII Cam
·
· Score: 2
The ascii cam is cool, but it doesn't really use ascii because if converts the ascii to png. Because of that it doesn't really help to limit bandwidth, a real ascii stream could give a streaming fluent image even to modem users, that is completly imposible with this png streaming, you couldn't watch the stream with lynx, too.
I think they should have used telnet for this stream.
Setting up a system like this will effectivly block more legal traffic than it will help to ban illegal things like nazi propaganda. Also you should note that scientology propaganda is not illegal in Germany. Also starting a system like the chinese one will get people to simply try blocking everything without really checking the law. Sueing germans for putting nazi is much better than useing blocking filters.
I think it is right that they are still manufactured but it isn't right that they were mandatory in german schools. I'm going to an german school and I had calculated by hand until I was at the 7th grade and after that we are using electronic calculators.
I think the durons is even better. The duron makes between 85-95% of the thunderbird in the most benchmarks, but these benchmarks are really unrealistic. They benchmark the duron with an geforce 2 gts or so. If you building an budget system you will not buy a videocard for $175. An thunderbird will not get much faster than the duron in the important resolutions with an slower videocard because the cpu is limited by the videocard. If you build an value gaming system you maybe could effort an geforce 2 gts + duron 800 or an geforce 2 mx + thunderbird 850. But when you play at 800x600x32 and up, the duron system will likely be faster.
CPUs are really not the limiting point now. If you want a fast and inexpensive system, buy an "slow" cpu like duron 800 or thunderbird 850 and than put much ram in it and buy fast harddisks(raid may be an good idea if you do video cutting and things like that) and videocards.
Ok, it isn't an hollywood movie, but I think it should be in that line. Ghost in the Shell is one of the best movies about that theme and I think it is much better than X-Men. After you saw it you will really start thinking about what is consciousness and how it could happen. Can a machine become conscious over its existence?
