Well I was marked a troll which is a first for me but I was just stunned to see that this guy wrote this article and that it got picked up...The guy could be standing on a street corner announcing the second coming and probably be more accurate than saying FB is going to be a bank based on the fact that folks play FV and MW using "credits"....Grrr....for some reason this article just really hit a sore spot with me.
Here in Pensacola we were nailed pretty hard by the eastern eye wall of Ivan last September. Nothing like these poor blokes but pretty bad.
Within a few days, virtually every cell phone provider in the area had brought in mobile cell towers on trailers and crates full of cell phones. Anyone who could make it to one of the many locations was allowed free, unlimited use of the phones from that location. This went on for SEVERAL days.
It's great PR and it was incredibly beneficial to the residents whose homes had been washed away.
My guess is that T-Mobile is offering this now because of the near impossibility of entering these areas. Be patient and rest assured that companies like Verizon and Alltel won't pass up the chance for good press, a positive brand impression on consumers in a given area and , let's hope, the opportunity to do some good for people who are in desperate need.
The receptionist at the front desk began explaining her "slow" computer and problems getting her DSL hooked up to me.
I told her it would be cheaper to buy a new PC from Dell than to pay me to come out and fix all the problems she has accumlated with Win ME and install a NIC.
I find it really sad that all the comments stating something to the effect, "This is the worst idea ever", or "What a geek!" are being modded up.
Worst case scenario, a bunch of people get CDs that they have no idea what to do with and call asking "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?", at which point the poster explains that there's a program (I call it this because that what most users refer to Windows as) that will make your computer do everything it does now but be far less suceptible to the WTD's (Web-Transmitted-Diseases) they are fighting every day.
Best case scenario, they throw it in and it works and they see that besides Fords, there are Chevrolets, Buicks, and even Yugos and that they have a choice.
Power to the people.....quit raggin' on this guy and either offer some helpful information shut your pie hole!
Plume Re-titles Book by Katie Tarbox A Girl's Life Online In an effort to avoid an association between the book originally titled Katie.com and the website Katie.com, Plume and the author decide to make this title change. New York, New York, August 6, 2004... In 2000, Dutton published a hardcover book called Katie.com by Katie Tarbox, an eye-opening account of one teenager's descent into the seductive world of the Internet. After the book was released into the market, it was brought to Dutton's attention that a website of the same name existed on the Internet. The fact that the book, Katie.com, and the website shared the same name was purely coincidental. In an effort to avoid any association between the book and the site, when Plume issued the book in trade paperback in 2001, it printed on the copyright page that the author of Katie.com and events described in the book have no connection whatsoever with the website domain owner Katie Jones or her e-mail address. Trena Keating, Editor-in-chief of Plume, said, "We have made every effort to clarify the fact that Plume's book, Katie.com, and the website, Katie.com, are not in any way associated with one another. In addition, it was erroneously reported recently that Plume had asked its attorney to attempt to buy the web site Katie.com from domain owner Katie Jones. This is absolutely not true. Ms. Jones confirms this point in a message currently posted on her web site. "We are not working in association with author Katie Tarbox or any other individual in an attempt to assume ownership of the domain name address www.katie.com. Of course, the personal views of the author are hers and do not represent Plume in any way. "Going forward, Plume and the author have decided to re-title this book A Girl's Life Online. This is an important book about predatory pedophiles on the Internet and how we can protect our children. We changed the title to keep focus on this issue. The newly titled book will be released next month. We have always taken this situation very seriously. And we hope that by making this title change, it will demonstrate just how dedicated Plume is to clarifying this matter."

Apparently the admin desk at /. has been unmanned since April fools and they are just catching up.
I mean seriously, this is worthy of Slashdot?
The fact that this story was selected makes me seriously wonder why I come here any more...
Perhaps this will clarify... http://www.npd.com/corpServlet?nextpage=profile_s.html/
Seriously though....
Not even one post and this guys site is down!
Why is it so hard to use coral cache?
After Ivan, Anheuser-Busch drove down the streets handing out bottles with their logo so none of this suprises me.

Please proofread people!!
Is it just me or is it weird that not one single story one the front page has any comments that have been modded up to 5?
Go ahead and waste your mod points and call me off-topic.
Amen!
I couldn't agree more.
It happened as I was leaving work today.

I just noticed that Penguin had issued a press release stating that they have changed the title of the book to "A girls life online"
b out/press.htm
Press release here http://www.penguinputnam.com/static/packages/us/a
I can't believe how often something that was a press release turned news story actually makes the front page of /.
So how would this system differentiate between man and animal?
You would have a large number of "false passes" based on skunks, racoons and various other woodland animals.
I for one would be willing to donate...
