Well, since a laser moves at the speed of light, it would be pretty damn difficult for the laser to miss jets/missles/etc., no matter how fast they were going. As soon as they were sighted by the computer, they'd be dead. If the laser was quick enough, it would be next to impossible to attack it with conventional weapons.

Well, since it's going to have a large, maneuverable laser that can shoot down missles... don't you think it could... oh, I don't know... shoot down missles shot at it? I don't see why not. And, I would think that jets would be an easy target for this thing. They're much slower than missles, and they're much larger.
"Just"? It's the employer's option to decide whether the crime will impact the employability of a person. They can hire whoever they'd like, for virtually any reason. If they think that that person is irresponsible because of a criminal history, then they have every right not to hire that person. Deal with it.

Supply and demand. I pay for my power, and I can use it however I'd like. If there's a shortage, then the power company can increase my bill.
Wow. Talk about paranoia. If you can't trust anyone at all, unplug your computer from your ethernet connection. Anybody could hack/hurt your computer in some way any time you're connected. If you have no faith in anyone, then stay off the Net. These are great projects, and the value they provide to society as a whole greatly outweighs the potential risk.

They're protecting you from things that you don't even know about... Little green men, biological weapons, chemical weapons, whatever. I'm sure that most that they go up against would probably freak out the American public if they knew about it, or screw up their operations. I'm sure that there are plenty of reasons that they can't disclose everything that they do. We're safe in this country, and I have a good bit of freedom. What else do you want.
We're not that 'out there', by in large. But the mountains are still pretty damn remote. That damn abortion bomber guy (Eric Rudolph?) successfully escaped the FBI out there.
Now, that's true. I didn't think about that. It IS possible that someone in HR at MS has some kind of agenda or 'issue' that doesn't make it's way up to Bill Gates, who's probably wondering why they can't hire better people. Very true.
That's horseshit. In the IT industry, it's nearly impossible to find and keep good people. What sense would it make to discriminate, or otherwise piss off anyone?
On top of that, saying that just because blacks make up a small percentage of upper level employees doesn't mean anything. It's not MS's fault that in this country, blacks choose to educate themselves much less than other ethnic groups.
And, this lawsuit won't stand. The courts have repeatedly said that no company is required to maintain quotas. That would kill most businesses instantly.

We already have simple social security numbers? Why do we need a card? Give your SS# to the election people and vote. How tough is that?
No, you probably couldn't put together a coherent sentence. Don't bother, kid.
No, instead we should have the election system run on Linux, so every kid can hack it, and there's nobody to call when it breaks.

Try Popular Power. Great Flash screensavers, plus they will be paying soon. In the meantime, help create an influenze vaccine.

NC is a first strike nuclear target, I'm sure. Not a nice thought for those of us living in NC.

Wow. People follow a little electronic device to an arbitrary point on the map. Thrilling.
Wow. That will have a huge impact on Gnome usership, I'm sure.

How about some performance numbers? For example, how well does Oracle run on these boxes (a common use for boxes like this)?
I've been told I have a colossal tool, yes.
So what? There are lots of useless, unenforceable laws on the books. I live in a state where oral sex is still illegal.
huh? So I go to Europe, and have more of my taxes go to healthcare? I thought you didn't want to pay for other people's health care. ???
Why should I care about IP laws? I write code. I get paid for it. Enough said.
Move anywhere else and see how much of your paycheck is missing.
Oh, that's easy. Live in the US. Travel or live for a short time anywhere else in the world. You'll understand this really quickly.
Aaah. Gotcha.
