    I can't say that I have much trouble with RPM. You just have to be careful that you the correct RPMs for your OS.

    Just because quite a few idiots put out RPMs that stomp all over peoples systems, doesn't mean that RPM is bad. It means that some people are idiots.

    You can cause the same mess with other packinging systems if you do not package the apps correctly.

    Sorry, MP3 playback does not need to be builtin to the OS. Having MP3 playback handled by another app is ok.

    I have worked as a waiter in the past so I know what it is like.

    But I am sorry, why should I pay someone to bring me food if they can't keep the drinks 50% full, ACT like they enjoy their job, and show up at the table more than twice?

    I do not pay people to treat me like crap.

    That is correct. If they do not provide me with at least a good level of service that I do not tip them. It is not that hard to be friendly, keep the drinks more than 1/2 full, and act like they enjoy their job, is it?

    I tip waiters if the provide excellent service. One does not get excellent service on /..

    It isn't like a dup check and a spell check would be that hard to code and if I remember correctly, these features have been submited to /code in the past but /. refuses to use them.

    I do. And I pay for that value by viewing the ads that /. has.

    I just do not see enought added value in paying for a sub when it really doesn't by you much more.

    I would subscribe, but I do not see any value in it.

    If /. would offer services like a dup detector for stories, spellcheck for subscribers. more technical stories (like /. used to), and if the editiors would actually post/interact with the users then I would subscribe.

    Till then? Well their are quite a few other projects that will be getting my money.

    Processor dispatch allows the compiler to generate multiple optimized code paths and dynamicaly select which optimized version of the routine to use based on the processor that the program is running on. This allows a single executiple to run with SSE/SSE2 support on the P4 and still run on processors that do not support SSE/SS2.

    I do not know what happens when the app is ran on AMD processors that support SSE/SSE2.

    Because in some/most cases it makes faster code and saving 10% execution time is worth the sub 900 USD price of the Intel C compiler.
