When scientists work on technology they hardly have affordability in mind. The chief objective is to first get the breakthrough, and then later versions that are affordable will follow. And if it weren't for this where would funding for reasearch stand?

  5. Man versus machine is not the issue? on Computer Will Take On Formula 1 Champion · · Score: 1

Competing in physical activities is no big deal even though we have to keep in mind the twist and turns the car has to take to avoid other racers, but here again there is no risk to life to the experimental car. Machines have since ages been doing things more efficiently. All through ages we have known that man was not the sturdiest nor the fastest, it is just one species of the planet. But this just one species has made the world go round it and no car racing machine can change that. For the believers here's a line --even though we may achieve great things we are still made by God and he is superior, so also we made machines and we are the gods to them and interfere in their lives as to our whim and fancy.

When I was in college I was expected to write form the very few books available locally and maybe one or two foreign editions, but now I am sure the expectation of the examiner would be higher since my refernce field would increase immensly. Even if the examiner were complacent works of co-students (the serious ones) would lead to it. And ofcourse the examiners life isn't any easier for he may not be sure whether the student is speaking in terms of the latest developments unless he too puts in more effort. So its going to make everyone work more and yet doubt whether it is sufficient.

  18. ITS A UNIVERSAL LAW on Is There REALLY an IT Worker Shortage in the US? · · Score: 1

Money makes all the difference, ealier, now and forever. And labour flocks where the money is. In yesteryears it used to be by force, now its voluntary. Don't the overseas guys know the situation, yet they are willing to face being called servants because they reason that in the end they stand to gain, experience and moneywise. And it has been the nature of the host country to always feel superior. Even the british colonies where they started out as traders, were looked down upon till they became the rulers. They were underestimated till they had taken control of the country. Another very different example is that of Saudi Arabia. 30 years ago they came to india to sell merchandise and lived an almost nomadic life and were pitied, but now the Indians go there in search of livelihood and are treated like dirt. So I would say it's how the social psyche works and people compromise with it. No foreigner will give up the opportunity to work in the US just because some dunk pointed out what he knew anyways.

  23. Good reveiw,points out the target audience on Sizing Up a Start-Up · · Score: 1

This is indeed a good review, firstly because it is very organised and you can look at the section you are most interested in, like say the positive points, or perhaps only where the book fails. However best of all is that it tells you the type of readers who'd benifit. Even in these times there are scores who have just heard the word dot-com and dream of becoming an entrepreneur in the field. Such people have heard of the dollars to be earned but don't know anything beyond that. They are all excitment with no bed to roll on. so this book will perhaps actually prove to bring them back to the real world and equip them with some more knowledge than " dotcom " and " dollars".

Most often than not the judiciary seems bent on proving people are on the wrong and must be punished. This is one rare insight on their part, not to take emails and comments on the net very seroiusly . Imagine if they just thought we at Slash should be punished for our oh-not-so-propah comments. They do realise that net users aren't actually all that serious as the money seems to portray. We are all having fun and the money just came by and the fun became even more fun. Am I right?

Most times we overlook it as a prank and if it gets to govt. secutity, debate about it; only to forget after a while. But the problem is realy serious as pointed out by this article. A majority of internet users actually believe what they read on the net never thinking the the info that they have read could just have been lifted from some other place without verification and that at times authors can write based on their own half baked understanding of things. Just as many of the slashdot readers like me do.
