  1. Re:Was the teacher tutoring a single student? on Machine-Guided Learning Matches Teachers In Study · · Score: 1

Alternatively, think of the teacher as a seed node in a peer-to-peer system. Those who learn faster can become 'supernodes' and help teach the rest of the class. Clumps of students who are at similar levels can work through their difficulties with the help of a seed node or a supernode.

Just thought I'd point this idea out, as it doesn't have to be an either/or choice between 1:m and 1:1 teaching. We can also have m:m, m:1 and any other combination. Facilitating that effectively would be the challenge.

But it's important to understand that Canada is going to be moving forward with tar sands, regardless of what we do. That's their national policy, they're pursuing it. With respect to Keystone, my goal has been to have an honest process, and I have adamantly objected to Congress trying to circumvent a process that was well-established not just under Democratic administrations, but also under Republican administrations.

    From http://stoptarsands.wordpress.com/:

70% of the crude oil being extracted from the tar sands is exported directly to the United States mostly for use in transportation.

Here's what I've heard batted around lately: "every year our governments give a trillion dollars in public handouts to the fossil fuel industry. A group of climate champions has emerged to take on this madness and end polluter payments at a vital UN summit this June.... What could the world do with a trillion dollars? The UN believes we could end world hunger 33 times and over. Experts also say it’s enough to kickstart a clean energy revolution that replaces all fossil fuels with renewables."

There are lots of potential reasons for their actions on both sides of the equation: Maybe the US really does want to protect against attacks, or maybe they want to continue their march to becoming the world government. Maybe Russia feels it won't be needed anymore by its allies if the Americans are protecting them instead. etc... I've no idea.
