He's right. The language in the books is stilted "I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn, blah blah, and this is the sword that was Broken!" (cave men were undoubtely more eloquent at times), the characters lack depth (hell, you don't even know what they look like - except they're often clad in gray).
If you mean "The Hobbit" you are partially right. While the language of Men in the story seems crude and coarse, notice how the Hobbits themselves are more apt to offer some sense of proper english. I belive Tolkien was trying to show man (humans) as a brutish race when compared to Hobbits and Elves.
On the other hand, If you are reffering to LOTR, dont forget the eloquent musings of Tom Bombadill or Treebeard Hoom Hoom!
I own this amazing book myself and I am also an artist. It's a wonderful thing to see paintings of the most beloved scenes of middle earth rendered by some of Tolkiens biggest fans. I remember painting a scene (for a high school art course)from the hobbit where Bilbo is in the cavern holding the elven blade. I wondered if there was a repository of artwork pertaining to Tolkien and almost 10 years later I discovered this book. When I opened it up to see Sting and the look of Bilbo inside I was floored. I especially enjoy the work of Alan Lee. He is truly a master of fantasy art. If you have a chance see more of his work with Brian Froud in books like Faeries, and Gnomes. Amazing work!
Hmm, another absurd claim...Color me skeptical, but Ive seen several attempts at producing high-quality, low-bandwidth video and Ive concluded that those two words comibined cant make sense. There are many codecs available today that claim to produce tiny file sizes that download quickly and play full screen, Unfortunately they rarely deliver. The article seems real light on the details, No description of connectivity besides a 28.8 modem, no details on the display, resolution, nothing. I think this company is either set to revolutionize the media industry, or they just pulled the biggest funding scam ever. Until *I see it* I wont belive this hype.
Now if I can receive Full screen Quality on my good ol' p133, 800*600, on a 28.8 modem through my noisy copper, Im golden...
I still use the same Cyrix chip you just described. Although the FP did indeed suck, It ran fine for me on everything from photoshop 4, to 3dstudio DOS. It also cost a pretty penny less than a *real* p150. Truth be told, I saved alot of money by purchasing a cheaper processor and had just enough left over to buy a scanner. Hopefully the cheaper AMD's in this case wont suck as bad.
That is, Stem cells which are fully developed, i.e. Have grown into bone marrow, Fat deposits, or dura/pia matter in the spinal cord, cerebellum. These cells could be made useful, but right now embryonic stem cell research can use this type to conceivably grow any organ in the body in a lab environment.
Wow. Now I get to see a bluescreen everytime I start down the hill. Seriously, why Closed? Why Windows? Hmmm... I guess putting out a product for a closed operating system mandates you follow by example. I guess Openracer will need a mascot, no?
Or is this guy look a little bit upset at having his picture taken?
Nevertheless, I'd like to see one of the replica analytical engines, or a Turing machine on display at one of these shows...
Now that would be worth the price of admission!
Sony will most likely have to drop the price of the PS2 to $199 to evencompete with the performance/price of the GameCube. a $199 DVD player/game system and a $199 Nextgen Console...hmmm Christmas is starting to look greaaaat!
Why! Im my day we had to walk 5 miles through the snow to get to the arcade!
We didnt have these fancy-schmancy game cards or tokens...Our machines used quarters! And we liked it!
We didnt have these 3d-shoot-em-up, Parallax-scrolling, 60 fps, CD-sound, thingamabobs! We had two colors, BLACK and GREEN and the game was about as fun as getting your back waxed and WE LIKED IT!
Yes, this one includes the original japanese language track. Check the details here
A buddy of mine got it from his dad....

Akira Re-Released
·
· Score: 3
Back in 1990 when it first appeared in VHS in japan. His father was a businessman who traveled and picked it up at a store in tokyo. When I first watched it, my jaw nearly broke the floor! The chase sequence at the beginning was the most amazing use of animation Id ever seen. My previous exposure to anime was the classic Harmony gold Robotech series that was on television in the late 80's. Just a quick Akira story for you folks...
What if the person using the PC is not the theif? What if they purchased the PC from said theif and are blind to the fact that it is stolen property? Im sure sending Radek wouldnt do too much good then...
Should read: It was the sheer stupidity of the slashdot readers and the skill of some network admins which aggravated the slashdot effect and it's DoS potential. thank you.
Okay, The article cites the dimensions of this thing being "softball sized". A standard softball is between 11.88 and 12.13 in. (30.2 and 30.8 cm) in circumference. What kind of Mobo, Electrical system are we talking here? Any more detailed specs available?
Okay when are these idiotic online news services going to stop reffering to these things as A.I.?
This isnt A.I. Rather its some sort of software which uses a created database or other collection of data to create answers for users. Regardless of what type of fancy-schmancy gobbledegook going on behind it. Give me software that asks "How are you today sir?" and actually understands what I mean when I reply "GOD&@!%$! stupid Net vista piece of %@!#$%!!!"
Go forth!...
Details are here for the uninitiated.

By very carefully watching the responses of my peers IM's I can tell who is:
Eating lunch, Talking on the phone, Having coffe, etc.
Of course you can also see who is practicing one-handed typing...
