Okay, now Im certain that the Govt. is planning on recruiting FPS players for the next gen. military. One question, If the person involved in the simulation makes a mistake, and villagers begin confronting him, Can he use the BFG? or at least the Rail Gun? But seriously folks, what type of training does this fall under? I can see where the technology is headed with the quality of graphics being produced (planetside?) but what kind of psychological conditioning is being given to troops these days? If I were a villager, I wouldn't want to confront a U.S. soldier whose only negotiation skills were garnered from an FPS game back home.
"Blockman Trading has released the alpha version of Runix, which is a working verion of Linux 2.4 kernel working with PS2
So which one is it? PS2 or PS1?
This really sucks for Northpoint subscribers. First their service gets cut off, then earthlink signs them up, now they find script kiddies playing on their boxen. What's next?
This has been done for quite awhile. The ROM's have been poked, prodded, and mapped and you can "make" an actual cartridge, but it's a bit difficult to do. Here is some info regarding Classic nes.
I think he belongs in the annals of gaming for the 80's. The Famicom system with the japanese equivalent of ROB (or robotic-operating-buddy) was pretty popular in nippon. Unfortunately, U.S. kids didnt like interacting with a toy that challenged them to keep the damn top spinning on both the TV and the toy. Come to think of it, I hated the fact the damn thing never worked right for me either! Well, I wish I had kept mine!
Just wanted to say "annals" without being modded down:)
That Craig killborn guy with Jon Stewart. So much funnier since he's been gone...although I hear he's been frequenting the late night talk show circuit...."shudder"
...Strongly opposes all forms of Alternate currency?
Our Government loves the fact that the american dollar (and all electronic variants of it) is one of the strongest forms of currency in circulation today. They will always find a way around allowing anyone to question its value. If the federal reserve declared gold worthless, would it matter? I think the feds have their heads (guess where?) and their hands (in your pockets?) in the wrong place.
Hmmm, I could have sworn I was reading something a few years back regarding monsato. It was about them introducing a type of seed that could not produce seeds once it germinated. This was so that farmers would have to continue buying crop seed from monsato every season. I wonder what would happen if somehow these seeds "blew off a truck" and began spreading slowly? Would this contribute to a worldwide food shortage?
"Star Bridge created an operating system called Viva (meaning "life") "
Okay since when? "Viva" an exclamation, means to live, or Hurrah! from the word "Viver". At least that's what it means in spanish. Maybe the meant "vida" which means "life"
"Walid filed paperwork with the IETF claiming that it will seek licensing fees "based on reciprocity" if this approach is adopted in the group's final standard."
Based on reciprocity? Once again, "patents by corporations who want to get paid" in action. I think with the major economic slowdown in the U.S. alot of startups are making inroads into a new (not-so-new?) and lucrative form of business.
Why does Slashdot use the Old Silicon Graphics logo? Silicon Graphics effectively became SGI as of april 99. So is this just graphics trolling? Or should slashdot reflect the current branding strategy of a corporation? Wasn't this a News site once?
You mean the story about this guy? Personally, I think it was hilarious! Im not sure what ended up happening either. It was just a funny "take back the net" story.
SAN DIEGO, California:
San Diego Superior court appears to be after another party in its spammer court case, this time slashdot is being sought for what is known as the "slashdot effect" after a story posted on their web page pointing at signonsandiego completely knocked out their servers causing a panic. CmdrTaco was unavailable for comment at press time.
I think you blithly go through life analyzing peoples sig's to see if you can discover something about their stance on certain social issues. I think you are also an idiot, although that's just my opinion. I also belive you have no idea who Masamune Shirow is, nor do you appear to care. Again, you are an idiot.
I was actually reading "Appleseed" an old manga by Masamune Shirow that mentioned self-healing polymers on a motorcycle fairing. In the comic it said "You have to use a special wax of course." I think its funny to see something that's science fiction actually become science fact within your lifetime.
I think these scientists and engineers who came up with the idea of basically crash landing on the asteroid should be applauded. Imagine the kind of calculations needed to accurately cause a a craft to crash into an asteroid?! It simply boggles the mind does'nt it? But they did get a good amount of "bonus science" for doing it.
So I guess Corel bends down: ("..evangelizing the Macintosh to prove that [Corel does] 'think different,'") -for apple and bends over:
(..WordPerfect to Microsoft's.NET) -for Microsoft too.

Its just an excuse for big business to get into schools and use filtering software to track kids spending habits. read more about CIPA and COPA here
