  1. Easiest way to "give" on More Links And Updates On Terrorist Attacks · · Score: 1

From the lovely people who brought you tons of emails where you can "click to save the rain forest" there's now a "click to help the relief effort" page as well.

Just visit their site, and sponsors pay .10 to the Red Cross for everyone who "clicks" and presumably sees their ads. (see, banner ads can be good for something!)

It only takes a second and is a cost-free way to help--the least that anyone can do! (The site also has info on other ways to help as well, though)

There is nothing wrong with having debt in something like a house.

Going into debt for a car (which is much more easily repossesed, clearly!) Is somewhat more stupid, your house will go up in value if you take care of it, that can't be said for most cars.

Hell, I'm only 20 (almost...) and i'm already starting a life of operating in debt, but i'm trying to do it for worthwhile things...right now it's my computer :)

Sure, i want a car, but i'm not going to think about it until I really NEED it for a job and it can actually help me, instead of pouring money into some flashy thing that's only going to make my life worse.

So, while I may not be as smart *technically* as all those "millionaire" dot-commers in CA, somehow, this article makes me feel a bit brighter!

actually, it doesn't really affect SAG (that's Screen Actor's Guild for those of you still thinking it's the "actor's union") because it IS just like a cartoon. Do people really think that this is going to overtake all lead roles?
Seriously, while it may not be the norm of this particular community, i think most people still like being able to see LIVE human characters.
I'm not a guy, but i'm guessing that the Tomb Raider chick isn't quite the same as an hour worth of...i dunno, who do guys like? jennifer aniston?..something like that. And from a girl's point of view, romance movies are a big box office draw every year- and you just don't replace Robert Redford or Freddie Prinz Jr. with a drawing, i don't care how good of a drawing it is.

But that's just my two cents worth...

Overall, i have no real problems with the industry phasing out. It's not like the concept of video games is completely dissapearing altogether, it's not even at a plateau. There are still tons of new directions for the technology and gaming concepts to expand to, as we see everyday.
The only complaint I could possibly come up with is, I won't get any more cool plastic rings (worth three tickets, or so i'm told) from my boyfriend anymore!...'course, maybe he'll go back to buying me real jewelry.... eh, best not get my hopes up. ;)

  20. Here's why... on Canadians Hang Bug Off Golden Gate · · Score: 2

Part of the reason thet I imagine they're being so picky about this is that the Golden Gate Bridge has a huge draw for such things. They stopped realeasing the number of people who have killed themselved by jumping off of it years ago because they thought it was only encouraging others. Though the number is no doubt much higher than for your average bridge. (There was a special on the History Channel, sorry i don't remember more details)
It's a highly patroled area and the city/police are very concerned with anything that goes on there in general. To simply let them get away with this would no doubt be an insult to the efforts they've made and would encourage a far larger than average number of "copycat" pranks that would endanger many (being that few would be by engineers)
I really don't think that this group researched things well enough to say that they were truly concerned with "safety first". There are pranks, and then there's crimes, things you just have to suck it up and deal with the consequences for once you've done them.

The oddest thing I noticed in the article was the quote from the president of the university, "There's a little bit of a cheer that goes up when you see someone has found a way to put us on the TV and helped raise people's awareness about engineering...I think we all cheer when students do this." I don't know what James Stukel (president of the University of Illinois) would say if some of his students did something like this but I doubt he would encourage others to "cheer"...

I was four when the shuttle exploded, I was at a babysitter's (daycare, whatever) whose husband was somewhat involved in the space program. In fact, IF i've been told the story correctly since then, he had been interested in trying to be one of the astronauts on that launch.

In any event, being the responsible sitter that marilyn was, she wanted us to experience the historical moment of a shuttle being launched even at such a young age. I must say I don't remember actually seeing the launch- i think i had chicken pox or something, i was probably scratching sores or coloring a picture-
what i remember was seeing one of the adults whom I most trusted and thought was invincible break down in tears and run out of the room. That really makes an impression on a little kid, I didn't really know what had happened, but i knew it was something big.

I'm glad that i was where i was that day, i'm sure alot of people my age were taking naps or playing legos and simply have to say they aren't old enough to really remember it while I learned alot-not about the space program, exactly-but about history and people and that there are always things around us to learn about and that every day could become a historical moment that you may remember for the rest of your life, if only you're paying attention.
