This sort of thing just ticks me off so much! I absolutely LOVE shopping online. Disneystore.com is a fav of mine as well as a number of other mall-type store sites (how could i NOT love having a shopping mall in my room? I mean, seriously.) And eBay?-hello, it's not only shopping, but it's like a fun game too!
But when sites are stupid about the way they handle customer accounts (though i generally only trust credit card numbers to fairly reputable companies, like disney) I'm the one who ends up looking irresponsible.
As if my parents don't already think i'm a slack off, good-for-nothing college student with poor judgement half the time anyway, they then hear about all these sites that have been "hacked" or "craked" or WHATEVER (as if my parents have ANY idea what that is, anyway- even less than myself) They just can't believe that i would be dumb enough to do any online shopping and how could they have raised such a dumb daughter who'd just throw money away like that over the untrustworthy newfangled internet shit. geez....
Wow, that was random, thanks for listening....

  7. Re:why??? on Judge: eBay Not Liable For Bootleg Recordings · · Score: 2

"they never have the actual objects in their possession"

You're right, ebay never sees or checks the items that go through (unless there is some sort of descrepancy, as far as i know) a MUCH larger volume of items are bid on every day on ebay.com than would be each day in a traditional auction house. (that is somewhat speculation, i don't have a lot of experience with normal auction houses) And it doesn't seem practical at all that they could be held responsible for everything people do through their site.

In the ebay user agreement that every seller and buyer agrees to by using the site it says:

" 3.1 Overview. Our site acts as the venue for sellers to list items (or, as appropriate, solicit offers to buy) and buyers to bid on items. We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety or legality of the items advertised, the truth or accuracy of the listings, the ability of sellers to sell items or the ability of buyers to buy items. We cannot ensure that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction." and it goes into somewhat more detail from there. (can be found on ebay.com by clicking the "safe harbor" link at the bottom of the page)

Now, this MAY have been added since i've joined (naturally, i didn't read it when i first started using ebay) but i doubt that there hasn't always been something along those lines in there. (and, i never recieved a notice about there being a change in the user agreement, and that's the sort of thing that ebay is pretty good about, usually)

If nothing else, it strengthened my aversion to such things (i've always kinda been a pain-in-the-ass goodie-two-shoes, i'll admit it) But, who knows? I might have been curious and tried some stuff if i hadn't heard different things from Officer Ashley.
(i knew one kid who was told by his friends that "huffing" or "whippets" weren't really like doing drugs and couldn't hurt him, maybe he would have known better if he'd paid attention in his own DARE class- i dunno)
I guess my point is- maybe it's true for the most part that some kids are going to do drugs anyway and some kids aren't going to anyway and the program doesn't make a difference.
HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO EVEN ONE KID OUT OF THE MILLIONS IN THIS COUNTRY EACH YEAR, IT'S WORTH IT until there is a more effective way.
If one more life is saved, if one person learns something to help keep themselves, a friend, or a family member safe- it's worth all those who sat there bored to death and ended up a totally addict by the age of 18.

Personally, i think whether you use the dash or not or if you use it as a singular noun or not, it shouldn't be THAT big of an issue.

It's still all relatively new language that is evolving in the English language every day.
Maybe they'll end up being technically incorrect (like "i'm going to send my friend an email") but how many 'rules' are there in the english language that don't have exceptions?

I don't think there's any danger of there being a "saturation point" that forces any decent PC company out of business. But the truth is--it will mostly have to be the american market (plus the rest of what we consider to be the "western world") to keep it going, new markets may appear in other parts of the world some day, but probably not soon enough or quickly enough for it to be much of a factor at this point.
