I just heard some sad news on talk radio - SciFi writer Sir Arthur C Clarke was found dead in his Sri Lanka home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an British icon.

How is this comparable ? It has no video out, it doesn't have a DVD drive. It has no advanced sound. It's ugly and noisy. It takes ages to boot. They don't even dare to say which graphic adapter it has. It's a shared memory one so I guess it sucks very hard (Yeah I know the XBox too, but Xbox apps take that into account).
Paul Terwilliger, [...], one of the largest manufacturers of electronic systems, said that [...] complaints about machines like his company's were uninformed.
Hey, the guy is related to Sideshow Bob (Robert Terwilliger), who rigged the Springfield elections against mayor Quinby, by having the deads vote. Don't trust him !
What I wonder, is whether it is possible to configure routers to drop packets from certain network ranges.
That would be pretty neat, I don't think there are routing tables that make routing decisions based on the from-address, so it would be hard to route packets around the problem.
That would be an easy solution to get rid of organisations or people that shouldn't be on the internet in the first place, like spammers, the RIAA or the MPAA.
Actually I am from a Dutch speaking uni and I based my translation on the Dutch translation, becaus I am more familiarised with it. The Dutch word is "vooroordeel", which through Latin translates litterally to "pre judice". As the other said, this is nothing more than a preconceived idea.
"La pensée ne doit jamais se soumettre, ni à un dogme, ni à un parti, ni à une passion, ni à un intérêt, ni à une idée préconçue, ni à quoi que ce soit, si ce n'est aux faits eux-mêmes, parce que, pour elle, se soumettre, ce serait cesser d'être."
(thinking should submit itself neither to a dogma, to a party, a passion, an interest, a
prejudice, neither to whatever, because , for thinking, submitting would mean the end of being)
For a month, I avoided stepping onto the scale, and when I finally did so, I found that I had lost a little weight
You should have done so : beginning is the hardest part, but also the part where you lose most. It's very stimulating to see you're losing 300 grammes a day.
And not only one that could be foreseen, but one that was foreseen, by many people. But it was forced through at the height of dirigiste socialism in the UK and (more so) France.
France was Gaullist by that time and would not be ruled by socialists until years later.
back in the days, we didn't have no steenking windows. Our dad would wake us up BEFORE we went to sleep to dig a hole in the osciloscope display with our teeth for 27 hours a day, eight days a week.
Through that hole we would then send Baudot coded smoke signal to the computer operator, while we were receiving input....(YOU GET THE IDEA)...uphill in the snow......for 20 miles......and we were happy.
you might want to say "L'imagination au pouvoir" in your sig. Or was this the fruit of your fertile imagination ?

Yeah, 'cause buying a bill eater that can get a software update is soooo impossible...

Mailing list, anyone ? Free Software (technically as in beer) mailing lists, anyone ?
Still looking
Also, in the "Greedo shot first" tradition, Chewie will no longer speak with monosylabic screams, but in upper class English.
Except Lucas will probably hire Britney Spears to replay the role for A New Hope Ultra Special Edittion, because his teenage daughter asked him to.
9. ???? 10. PROFIT !!!

Oops my bad. Missed that. The "it may be" part is not necessary though.
No way ! U R kidding me ! U R so well informed. Especially on the art of humor !
I wonder if Mexicans would be so successful in cooling silicon.
Is this also the reason Duke Nukem Forever is being delayed ?
Yeah, because I am a living proof the hacker's diet doesn't work.
