    I just heard some sad news on talk radio - SciFi writer Sir Arthur C Clarke was found dead in his Sri Lanka home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an British icon.

    How is this comparable ? It has no video out, it doesn't have a DVD drive. It has no advanced sound. It's ugly and noisy. It takes ages to boot. They don't even dare to say which graphic adapter it has. It's a shared memory one so I guess it sucks very hard (Yeah I know the XBox too, but Xbox apps take that into account).

    What I wonder, is whether it is possible to configure routers to drop packets from certain network ranges.

    That would be pretty neat, I don't think there are routing tables that make routing decisions based on the from-address, so it would be hard to route packets around the problem.

    That would be an easy solution to get rid of organisations or people that shouldn't be on the internet in the first place, like spammers, the RIAA or the MPAA.

    Actually I am from a Dutch speaking uni and I based my translation on the Dutch translation, becaus I am more familiarised with it. The Dutch word is "vooroordeel", which through Latin translates litterally to "pre judice". As the other said, this is nothing more than a preconceived idea.

    [The Poincaré] conjecture is that every simply connected compact 3-manifold without boundary is homeomorphic to a 3-sphere.

    You should have done so : beginning is the hardest part, but also the part where you lose most. It's very stimulating to see you're losing 300 grammes a day.

    back in the days, we didn't have no steenking windows. Our dad would wake us up BEFORE we went to sleep to dig a hole in the osciloscope display with our teeth for 27 hours a day, eight days a week.

    Through that hole we would then send Baudot coded smoke signal to the computer operator, while we were receiving input....(YOU GET THE IDEA)...uphill in the snow... ...for 20 miles... ...and we were happy.
