OK, so you know a person who is both an alcoholic and homeless. I can understand that this colors your opinion somewhat. I used to be homeless and I've never had any alcoholical behaviour. At least that changes the statistics to 50%...
You're either trolling or preaching to the choire. Yeah, yeah, the world is a bad place. Yeah, yeah, there's nothing we can do about it. Yeah, yeah, let's spend our lives posting to/. in the general assumption until we die in the sure knowledge that we have made no impact whatsoever on the world as we know it.
There's just one thing that puzzles me about your post. Is it supposed to depress me enough to shoot myself, or do you want me to become angry enough to come over to shoot you? Now if you'll just excuse me, some of us still live under the illusion that giving a homeless person his first meal in two weeks might actually make that person feel slightly more happy for a little while...
Firstly, charity is something you should do because you want to, not because it allows you to save some money from the taxman.
Or you could say that giving money to charity in order to prevent it from going to the state is making the choice of spending your money on food instead of weapons...

Why, aren't there enough of us already? Are you aware that every new geek diminishes your chances at a job?
Note to moderators, taking this post seriously is about as stupid as donating to the "Help Bill Gates through the Winter" charity, OK?
Mwah, all it'll take is a screwdriver when the boss isn't watching and it'll be AZERTY all over again. Does anybody know which number I should put in autoexec.bat for France?
Thanks to the sudden ubiquity of the internet, computer users can join forces in tackling great and seemingly insurmountable computational challenges - all while their computer sits idle.
QWERTY hqs the qdvqntqge thqt it's instqntly understood
Oh no it doesn't. I spent just one week in Frqnce writing HTML using AZERTY insteqd, and now I'm spending qll dqy long switching A's qnd Q's qnd the likes. You know whqt the worst thing is? AZERTY is qctuqlly better thqn QWERTY, especially for writing HTML. So when is someone going to release keyboqrds specificqlly written for certqin jobs? I wouldn't mind hqving one with q reqlly big < qnd > on it...
Actually it's a monday after a whole week of writing HTML on an azerty keyboard. Having to use AZERTY is one thing. Having to change back to QWERTY once you're used to it is a whole lot worse...
Some friends of mine have been playing a really well hackable RPG lately. It's basically the original of what you can find on a computer, but you play it with pen and paper and some other good things of life, like human beings and whisky and the like. For all you nerds out there, this is about as opensource as you can get. If only the gamemaster would stop recycling my characters. I end up seeing my beloved characters killed again and again, by my own hands.
Isn't that the best way to find flaws and make improvements for the next generation of that platform?
Are you actually suggesting companies might be interested in improving their products? Go wash your mouth with soap, twice! Just kidding. As a tech-support employee of a not to be mentioned company I am proud that our company slogan is "Let's make things better." Now get the hell off the line, will ya?
Why are we so enthusiastic about developing intelligent computers, given that this fate is inevitable?
Since we're all sub-consciously aware that annihilating the human race is how it's going to end up anyway? We might as well create something that kills us instead of us killing ourselves. That way we have someone to blame...
Unlike the story at K5 somehow the posters don't seem to be able to bring a message of respect. Ah well, it's only Slashdot. I guess the little cross on the top right of the window should stop the melancholy...
Something else a simple server log could ruin your reasoning. How hard can it be for an experienced sysop to find(or create, if necessary) the required evidence?
Trust me, when I'm filtering 100 Meg Wave files I wouldn't really mind some extra bandwidth either...
So from now on the /. crowd will be flaming Wintelbus instead?

You're one of those persons who walks around the block if you see a bum? Not all homeless people are alcoholics, smart ass.

Tax deduction. Nuff said.

Does this now mean Distributed.net will pay to use our computers for commercial services, like Popular Power?
Or far more important, will they pay me for the use of my boss' computers?

The Internet, safe when used as directed.
Oh really? Make that most companies...
Portable devices are bad(tm). You lose them to easily. Expensive things should be really big, like cars, houses and boats.

the show can go on for decades!
If that was an attempt at making me commit suicide, you were darn near to succeeding. Decades, aaarrrgggghhh!!!
I hope it has a volume control or something...
That's most likely going to be the frist hack done to it...

That's twice today. I keep forgetting the bloody </I> thingy. I hate it when that happens.

Somehow the though of E. Coli and Salmonella bacteria having drag races in my vains gives me the creeps. What if one of them takes a wrong turn?
Can this be considered animal abuse? And if so, should we use the alien bacteria from the other story instead?
