the group of us are trying to count what we saw total.. At a rate of 100+per minute at times ( it was really raining them) we think over 2 hours we saw 2-2.5k meteors.
I live in NH, with no light pollution, and a 360 degree view of the sky. i have never seen anything like this. 10-20 meteors at once several times!
Giant flashes and explosions (no sound) many times.. A rate of 4-6k per hour, and a peak at about 5:30 before the sun started coming up!
Absolutely spectacular! They sky was raining meteors!
I hope others who stayed up all night had as great of luck, it was something I hope I will see again.
I have the direcTivo model, and I cannot deal to watch normal cable or satellite TV without it. It is another of those tools that you dont appreciate until you have it, or have to go without. Just think of your TV without the remote, and how much of a pain that was (if you are old enough, or your TV was).
I cant say enough good things about TiVo.. they must have some kind of subliminal ads/messages in their menus- but that is ok with me as long as I am still happy with it. Dual tuner is pretty sweet as well.. watch one thing while recording the other... I think they are making cable dual tuner boxes now.

A bit off topic from the conversation, I would just like to state that i LOVE MY TIVO.
The hard drive died 3 weeks ago, and I had to spend 100 extra dollars, on top of the 450 buck unit, and the 200 lifetime service to get it fixed, damn cheap ass hard drive in it had a head crash *(clickity click click)
I have now been 3 weeks without it. I cannot tell you how much TV i have missed, maybe thats good... I have the direcTV model, and I want everyone to know, you NEED TIVO. Even if you think you will do it with digital VCR software on your box, dont bother. The set top functionality of Tivo means you will use it every day, blah blah blah, jesus, I sound like a salesman for tivo.
When you buy the tivo, get the service. If you are too cheap or poor to pay for the service, get your pc box set up with some digital vcr type software, and do it that way. THe tivo was designed for the service. I will say I do not agree with them downgrading the machine capabilities, but they seem to be responding appropriately to their customers in response to this.
I lost my point to this post, shit happens. blame it on the beer, and have a great f.in night there cheap ones.

I think a ship that would use this kinda fuel would be constructed in orbit and leave from orbit. I dont know why so many people think of radioactive exhaust and radioactive contamination as major issues with this. Yeah, the shuttles carrying the fuel to orbit could blow up, but so what, shit happens, the stuff would be in a nice safe container of some type or another.
For those of you who worry about it, go watch Trinity and Beyond, its a great film about one of my favs, nuclear explosions. After you see all those, a small spacecraft is peanuts.

Data could be recorded from all of the worlds seizmographs, and distributed, and using some formula greated by some math guy, and some software guy, and some geologists,... you know.. some miracle happens and we know when the next earthquake will hit, or volcano will burn down some trees in mexico.
Just think, if we got rid of brute force key crackin, and let the aliens look for us (they want our resources like those last ones did) , Los Angelos would never have been fried a few years ago by that eruption in the tar pits. So many lives were lost.
