Frivolous lawsuits are a _lot_ less common in the UK; in this country, the loser of a lawsuit has to pay the winner's court costs. Is this the case in the USA as well? If not, who pays for all these lawsuits?
Sorry to the previous commenter; I put "italicize" HTML markup around the quote of your comment, and it came through in the preview, but disappeared when I submitted the comment. Looks like my browser screwed something up:-(
MS cites Linux as evidence that it doesn't have an OS monopoly. By "convincing" OEMs not to demo Linux on their machines, MS surely gives the appearance that it does have an OS monopoly. How does it want to be perceived - as a company which has a monopoly, or not?
Look at what Stephen Williams says in his submission: Seems to be aimed at people who want to sell their free software.
Yup. I saw the word "copyleft" and immediately associated the license with "free software". I should have done more than skim it before submitting the story to Slashdot; then I wouldn't have used the word "free" in my submission.
I've sent a message about the NCL to the FSF. They might want to comment on the copyleftness or otherwise of this license.
There's plenty of money in GIF. I forget which corporation it is that owns the patent, but if you want to produce a commercial app that uses GIF, you have to pay someone lots of money. That's one of the reasons that PNG was created.

It was based on Tripos (ever hear of that?) and written in BCPL.
That isn't the kernel as such; that's dos.library, the high(ish)-level file I/O subsystem. The kernel proper, Exec, is written in C, and (as Matt Sergeant said) is a simple message-passing microkernel-style system.
When such a large part of the OS is in ROM, I guess it gets hard to decide what's the kernel and what isn't:-) As far as I am concerned, Exec and Exec alone makes up the kernel.
I wonder why nature hasn't developed a breed of critter that's outside the food chain. Something that tastes bad to everything and breeds like a porn show.
don't humans fall into this category?
No, because humans don't taste bad, apparently. It has been reported that human meat tastes like pork.
Hugo Fiennes, the guy who invented this, was in the year above me at Warwick University. He had a prototype empeg unit in his Mazda MX-5. I sat in the car and (saw|listened to) the thing working. It's tres cool.

Forget tricorders, I want a space ship that can travel faster than the speed of light. Holodecks would be nifty, as well.
I want a Borg-style optical implant, or a visor like Geordi LaForge. A bit extreme for curing my myopia and astigmatism, but cool nevertheless.

I'd like to plead guilty to "hacking" as well.

And did they have to draw associations with that chain of putrid coffee shops by calling it "Starbuck"?
It made me think of Battlestar Galactica, that putrid excuse for a science fiction show.
Anyone know of a Web site with a piccy of the Demon Penguin? I'd kinda like to see what it looks like :-) Tux with a trident, I guess.
I've got _no_ data that needs that level of encryption or security.
Down with Green! Purple rules!
Die, infidel!
Green.
How about "Apple Source"?
What kind of English is this?
Hackish. The same sort of English that allows words like "disgustitude", "hackification" and "winnage".
GIF and JPEG will die, there is no money in it!

*silence*
I'll get me coat.
Am I the only one getting annoyed by the grammar/spelling mistakes made in 1/2 of the posts he makes?
I'm personally more annoyed by the disgusting stuff that these sick scientists are doing.
pi = three, for large values of three.
And small values of pi.
