(stupid preview and submit buttons being right next to each other.... *grumble*)
that prompt sucked, what needed to be installed was MacsBug, then you could do all sorts of fun commands in the OS wide debugger:D
the great thing about MacsBug is that it automatically invokes itself when anything even thinks about crashing. my server (runs OS 9) has MacsBug installed along with a script that will log debug information and then restart the computer.
speaking of... that log must be getting pretty full after 4 years of this configuration...

i've seen computers get so stuck, that even holding the power button does nothing. some of these even had reset buttons that didn't work at those times....
ok, i'm confused... A couple of my servers run IIS sadly, most of them run apache on either linux or BSD.
so are you saying that it's unfortunate that some of your servers run IIS? or are you saying that your unhappy that most of your servers run linux and BSD?
given that coma placement I'm willing to lean to the latter: A couple of my servers run IIS{. S}adly, most of them run apache on either linux or BSD.
since the above seems like a grammar whore, i want to make it clear that I'm genuinely confused about the parent post's wording. i have no right to be a grammar whore. just look at the grammar of this post and any of my previous posts;)
i've run into a similar problem... i want a good ergonomic keyboard, but could care less about wireless, or bundled mouses. alas, i'm stuck with both wireless and a mouse if i want a _conformable_ keyboard:(

Perhaps someone should comprise a list of things that should of been vaporware, for the sake of corporations that stupidly put them out and consumers who shelled out cash for them. NGage anyone?
the 1st thing on my list would be Diakatana. *shudder*
the 2nd thing on that list would be Microsoft Bob *shudder*
ROMs are manufactured with the data installed proms are manufactured blank but burn once and stay that way. eproms are erasable. uveproms are erasable by ultra violet light.
no to belittle your argument, as it's perfectly valid, but your use of EPROMS and UVEPROMS is incorrect.
EPROMS and UVEPROMS are the same thing! EPROM = Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. it is erasable and programmable using UV light.
your use of EPROM above should have been EEPROM, or Electronically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory. this is the stuff you'll find in modern BIOS's, modern mac firmware (anything newer than 1995) and, flash memory. (things like Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Smart Media, USB key drives etc) EEPROMs as the name implies use electronics to erase and set there bits.
If you think being an MCP sucks (I'm not one, nor do I plan on being one, so I wouldn't know), why did you even bother taking the exam? Was it for employment possibilities? Job requirement? If that's the case - and I'm assuming that you would prefer to do other (perhaps Linux) systems work - why not market that instead? If you're strong in other systems, you're definitely employable.
i took it for employment possibilities. I'm marketing myself as a jack of all trades for computers, as it were. i can passably administer a linux box (but must have IRC open while doing it) and i can stumble about a windows system. my advantage is that i do Mac too. my future employer can throw any OS at me, and i'll (eventually) make it work.
there are a few other certs i'm going to get when i have practice and/or funds, such as A+, apples technician thing, linux certs, the list goes on and on.
as far as my personal preferences go, let me put it this way. I'm a Mac Zealot.
now that i'm an MCP (sucks huh?) i'll be trying to get as many people away from the Microsoft platform to something more secure at every opportunity i can get:)
how 'bout chmod a-w ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist to lock it and chmod u+w ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist to unlock it.
ps -auwwx | grep "Dock" | grep -v grep ...and, using the PID for the Dock.app returned from that command... kill -HUP the_pid_for_the_Dock.app
or you could just killall Dock -HUP. you don't even need to HUP it, LoginWindow (always running in the background) starts the Dock if it isn't running. (the same goes for the Finder)
the problem is that most OSes are too stupid to scale everything up so that you can see it. i have only seen one OS that handled a higher resolution display _correctly_ and even that was a hack - Palm OS
maybe Mac OS 11 will handle it properly, but i'm not holding my breath.
i have not played with linux, on an ultra high resolution display, so it might do things correctly, but given that there are exactly 1837023 different display implementations, i kinda doubt it.
as far as Windows goes, you _can_ tell it what DPI your monitor is, but if you use anything other than the default (96 dpi?) everything looks like shit and it's even harder to use.
until my OS allows me to properly see what is on my display, i will not go with a screen that squeezes 800 pixels in 1 square inch. since the Palm platform is so integrated, they can get away with a high resolution screen, and then hack the non-supported software to double (or even triple) it's pixels. though now many Palm OS apps available today natively support high resolution displays (i read books on my Clie)
you also pay more for a galon of bottled water than you do for gas. how meny people complain about that?
you should try removing the laptop battery before the CPU ;)

No one is standing there with a gun forcing you to go to web sites that have ads.
/me clicks over to MSN
please tell that to the person with a gun standing behind me!
blame my OS's spealing checker. i wasn't trying to be funny.

even Firewire, Apple-innovated, has been accepted as the de facto new A/V transmission standard, cross-platform
:P
just thought you'd want to know...
FireWire is a du jour standard. it's USB that is de facto

i'm calling myself a trojan horse
when Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was released on DVD, they had a mail in rebate with POP of the VHS or Beta release (i'm happy to say i have all 3!)
it was only something like $5 but it was something.
aside from the 1st 2 or 3 episodes,* South Park has been entirely CG, and i would assume that the movie is the same way.
*the 1st few episodes of South Park used a claymation technique with... construction paper...

you missed one, turning off the screen.
no i didn't, that's method 0. (every proper geek counts from zero!)

:chortle: know what would be cool? Global or per-window setting that doesn't require nib-fu.
:) (not currently compatible with Panther)
here is your per app solution
