you can get (or you used to be able to get) a student version of autocad...sure it would put the words "student version" in everything you plotted, but hell, if you're using cad professionally, you should bite the bullet and shell out for the full damn version.

I know this is offtopic, but this really pisses me off:

You know, the way you people bitch about it, you'd think that having /. make a little dough would be a bad thing. Sure it's a .org domain, but who really thinks that makes a damn bit of difference? Churches use .org addresses, and most churches are ANYTHING but nonprofit. I mean, how many chruches are there that pass a collection plate? Do you know what that money does? It buys the preacher/minister/priest/shaman nice new cars. New cars, you say? Well there's not that much money in those plates. Bullshit. People give to churches because, somehow, they think that that money goes straight to God. Well, skip the middleman I say! Throw your money up in the air, and God can keep whatever he catches.

And another thing that bothers me: I dropped my razor in the sink the other day and it blew out because the idiots who made it evidently didn't think anyone would be using these things in a bathroom near, you know, water. I mean Jesus assfucking Mary, it would cost them another, i dunno, dollar maybe to waterproof the goddamn thing, and now i need to get a shitload of resisters to try on it because it burnt out bad enough that i can't read one of the stripes, so it's 43-something, but I don't know how many damn zeroes follow that 3. Kindof an important thing to know how far away to put the goddamn DECIMAL POINT!

And something else that really fuckin' bugs me: people who take things too seriously, like the asshole I'm posting to. Come ON buddy don't get so pissy. It's a fucking website. It's not your friend, it's not your neighborhood, it's not your horribly-misnamed "virtual community". It's news. For nerds. Sometimes it's even accurate. And so what if Malda is makin' some flow off of it? This doesn't make him a sellout, this makes him FED, CLOTHED, AND SHELTERED!

But that's just my opinion, i could be wrong.

Just a sharp rock. you could put it on the end of a big stick and have a spear, or on the end of a little stick and have an arrow, or on a log that you drag behind your local dromedary and have a plow. spinning knives to mill things and drill things, knives and a spindle to make a lathe, a knife and a gear to make a can opener (thus making canned good practical).

The knife has essentially not changed since it's conception. sure we use better materials on it now, but that's about the only major change. ask most people and they probably carry a knife of some form....they have a billion uses in everyday life.

a knife is the only tool that you can live off of by itself. put someone in the middle of the wilderness with a knife and they have all they need to survive (granted, most people these days couldn't do it....just don't have the skills, but THEORETICALLY it's possible).
