Ah Slashdot, where people understand my jokes. I used the human penis, sharkgina line at a gathering the other day and nobody there understood it. Cretins!
They can be even more of a pain if you download premium channel (HBO, Showtime) TV shows. I had a friend get a notice for downloading Sopranos and Dead Like Me from their respective production houses to his ISP. Those are channels he pays for but he missed some episodes of each.
There is no time shifting. It doesn't allow either input or output to a TV. Its just a stripped down PC that plays(poorly) DVDs, VCD, CDs and MP3s. The auther of the review was very impressed with the system.
I can't quite rembmember where but on ww.actsofgord.com (I'm too lazy to make a real link) Gord debunks the myth that PS2 are sold at loss. They make a profit on each individual unit. I have never seen hard numbers to actually prove it is being sold at a loss, but would be interested in seeing them if someone knows where to find them.
Essentially that is already going on. The Andrea VM is in Linus's tree now and Rik's VM is still in Alan Cox's tree. So by choosing the official Linus kernel or the -ac kernel you can choose which VM subsystem you would rather use.
Well it's not a complete exchange killer, but Insight Server from Bynari isn't a bad replacement. It has had some big press lately. It doesn't use MAPI, only LDAP, POP3, IMAP, various standard protocols. Outlook works if you configure it correctly (very easy). It has a few drawbacks, such as the Outlook configuring, but overall it's a decent product. I've implemented it before and my clients were very pleased. It's $299 for 100 users, so it's not free but it's darn cheap compared to Exchange.

MAME on X-Box

If you go to the link, the person who did the MAME port also did a port of an N64 emulator. So your post is frivalous.
The upside is that it probably wouldn't take much encryption in order to fool any filters that would be looking for specific file types, ie. MP3, so encryption wouldn't have to be all that processor intensive. The funny side would be if someone (RIAA/MPAA) decrypts the stream and accuses you of copyright violation, you can site them for violation of the DMCA for breaking your encryption.
I was thinking with all these court transcripts flying around it's too bad 2600 couldn't get DeCSS code read out loud so that it would be typed into the transcripts and available to everyone. It would be funny to use the judicial process to circumvent itself. Just a fun thought.
Umm, Well I've got news for you. I still play all the old games. I'm playing this new Zelda right now (where's that stupid level 7?) and have a game of Chrono Cross going on the side. So perhaps you're opinion doesn't hold for everyone.
Oh god, I love the death gate cycle, absolutely amazing. Edding's Belgariad was super sweet too. Try Terry Brooks Shanara series, not every likes it but I thought they were cool.
As an addict of Jordan (who is dissapointing me lately, but that's a different story) I can say that Tad Williams is also addictive. His newer series 'the Otherland' is a great mix of sci-fi and traditional fantasy. Give it a try, it might be wierd at first but I'm salivation at the thought of the 4th and final book. His earlier series Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is also very good. Also try Terry Goodkinds 'Sword of Truth' series, very sweet.
When it comes down to a protocal issue like this look at ftp clients. They almost always use ftp hidden in their name, CuteFTP, WS_FTP, etc. So what's so wrong with Open SSH.
Just to take the oposite side it's not always true of telnet clients, ie. TeraTerm.
OK, after reading the headline 'Cracker Endagers Astronauts' who didn't think it was about some redneck parking his trailer on the shuttle landing strip? Ok maybe it was just me.
I had a hard time deciding between $50 in RAM or mayonnaise. I decided to go with mayonaise and for $50 it's an amazing performance gain. Who needs 1GHZ CPUs when you can just upgrade your current machine's mayonnaise.;)
Yeah, lets see, why don't they take a piece of money making software and give the source code to people who can do whatever they want with it. Realistically how many of you think Connectix cares if we want the source code, and would actually give it to us?
"The emergence of Linux as an industry standard, and the fact that Linux is better than any proprietary version of Unix, led SGI to reassess its position in the Windows NT market, Vrolyk said."
Wow I wonder if Sun, IBM, etc. know that Linux is better.
This discussion has popped up on the Mklinux mailing list before. The problem is getting the right version of mach. The mach that OS X and I assume Darwin uses is a kludge of two different verions last I heard. There might be a little bit of apple code change in there as well. I would definitely be excited if someone pulled this of though.

Well at least we know all the tuna would be dolphin safe with your average slashdotters.

This deal is one of the few things that makes living here worth it. Well, that and farmers daughters ;)

I saw the mp3 up for download atleast 5 days ago. Obviously the technoogy really worked :P

From now on I will have James Earl Jones read me all my e-mail. Occasional he can also utter "Come to the Dark side" to keep me amused :)

I only said it was funny, not realistic.

I guess God had to give women something men didn't have, since he already gave us the ability to pee standing up :)

Who would have thought, a conference about high tech bananas? What a wonderful world we live in. ;)
