IT departments don't know how to read www.microsoft.com/security and RedHat's update/errata page.
And you'd think they would check out the errata page more often, thinking it was a pr0n site...or maybe they just got disgusted that it wasn't and never came back.
Modulating information is EASY. Option bits in packets, delay between packets, checksums, IP addresses... almost anything can represent a string of bits.
Somebody mod him up, please, at least for this little gem. I'm a programmer and I've studied a bit of encryption, and I didn't think of this. (I'm pretty sure most people didn't, but someone who wanted to hide information badly would.)
I've got the same thing at my house. My favorite thing about it is the IPSec tunnel from here to work. It makes working from home VERY easy.

In case you didn't catch the first part of his post: in this case, it's an act of war. (IIRC, it was the president who declared it such.) In McVeigh's, it wasn't.
Everywhere you look, even in the face of disaster, you've got to bring up your pet cause. Forget it for a moment and think of what's prudent. Every flight landing in my state is being thoroughly searched, and I'm just peachy-fine with that.
But if they posted links to authoritative sources, we wouldn't have anything to whine and moan about! Where would our precious karma be then?
Actually, I have my own conspiracy theory on the subject. See, Taco's run up a tremendous gambling debt, and his income from Slashdot just doesn't cover it anymore. So every chance he gets, he puts up a story with a link to MozillaQuest. Why?? Because CmdrTaco is actually Mike Angelo! He's doing it for the ad revenue!
I have proof. First, no self-respecting parents would ever name a child Michael Angelo, unless they were some terrible TMNT freaks. Second, have you EVER seen them TOGETHER?
Make sure you let all the search engines know where you are so they can index you properly. If we Yanks try to link to your page purposely, we'll get sued.
Wow...you didn't even need to read the article to figure this one out - it was in the title, of all places:
Windows Reaches 64-Bits, For OEMs
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. That leads me to believe that they'll be shipping 64-bit Windows on 64-bit machines. But then, you can't flame someone for doing that...
No kidding. I've got a 66MHz 486DX, and I can swear that it runs just as fast as my friend's 1.4GHz Athlon DDR system.
The thing that bothers me the most is these stupid software companies that keep making bloatware. I mean come on, since when was a freaking web browser supposed to load up in over five minutes??
That's what I saw here, on every human's face while they waited for their computers to figure out what to do next.
You'd think they'd at least have had a foosball or ping pong table or something. If I ever get into something like that, I'll remember to bring a copy of War and Peace.
ANY kind of human contact can transmit a disease. Touching, talking, kissing, sharing eating utensils... all of these can be potentially deadly actions.
Our "freedom in human contact" destroys families.
I claim that there is nothing inherently morally wrong with consensual sex.
Actually, you were busy claiming that I was arguing against human contact. I saw no arguments about morals. That's the problem with you people - you focus way too much on the physical aspect of everything.
Our "sexual freedom" does not always destroy families. It does not always ruin lives. It does not always transmit disease. It does not always encourage disloyalty, nor disfunction, nor distrust.
Sure. I'll agree. However, I wasn't saying that all of those things always happened. I was saying that your chances of destroying families, ruining lives, and encouraging disloyalty, dysfunction, and distrust are significantly higher. In fact, the more you do it, the higher your probabilities climb towards 1.
Nothing inherently morally wrong with consensual sex? Tell that to the little boy whose dad ditched him because he just wanted to have fun with his mom when they got all hot and heavy at the drive-in. Tell that to the guys who wish their wives could sex 'em up like so-and-so did.
Try to get that one past the parents who would like to teach their children some kind of morality.
Sure, it's your opinion, but it's awfully childish to condemn those that don't choose to live as you do.
What's wrong with condemning a choice? (I'm also tired of worship of "choice." Too many times, calling something a "choice" has gotten people free passes.)
I'm a believer in exaggeration to make a point:
I also condemn people who choose to kill other people. Is that wrong? I hope not. Should I be happy if some force (legal or otherwise) stops the practice? I should think so.
Now - don't think I'm putting sexual perversion in the same boat with murder (some people do), because I'm not. I'm using an application of a principle that you (hopefully) agree with so you can see that the principle is fine.
Here's the principle: it's fine to be happy with a consequence that deters other people from doing something you believe destroys society. Our "sexual freedom" destroys families. It ruins lives. It transmits disease. It encourages disloyalty, dysfunction, and distrust.
As for the victims? I feel sorry for those who develop AIDS because they contracted HIV from a blood transfusion, and I wish it wouldn't happen. I even feel sorry for those who develop it through its general means of transmission. However, they chose their consequences when they chose their actions. If someone else can look to them as an example of what not to do, avoid the action and avoid the same consequences, I think that's great.
Although the second reason you mention is superior, I'll take the first for now. Motivations have a funny way of blending together, and sometimes one motivation becomes another one. When I was a child, there were a lot of things I thought twice about because of fear of punishment - now I wouldn't do them because they are wrong.
And if people listened to the other things this "old guy" says...
Exactly. I'm know I'm going to be modded down to -1 for this, but here's my view:
I'm glad AIDS exists. I'm glad venereal diseases exist, and are often so hard to get rid of, sometimes deadly, and so very uncomfortable. Why?
It's a good deterrent for those people who like to practice promiscuity. And, since well over 99% of infections are acquired through pre-marital sex, it's also a good punishment. I'm sick and tired of the entire world saying that blatant disregard of sacred creation itself is a good thing.
There are some who think it's the wrath of God. There are some who think it's natures answer to unnatural conduct. I tend to agree with both.
First of all, the posting guidelines say that if you haven't got anything good to contribute, you can at least try being funny. I've never used BSD, so I decided to be funny. It seems to have actually worked, despite your protest.
Second, I've been around long enough to hit the karma cap, but I've never seen anyone mistake Jordan for L. Ron. Even if I had been completely aware of my striking unoriginality, I would have posted my pithy joke anyway, assuming that it was about time to resurrect it. (Besides, I thought that the run-length plot encoding was pretty good.)
What I really want to know is how he wrote so many books about absolutely nothing at all. If someone were to come up with run-length plot encoding, you'd probably get at least a 1000:1 compression ratio on most of them.
...No game designers who just want to create some fun and/or bragging right for thier friends?
No kidding. It makes me wonder if the poster of the parent of your comment has ever taken a look at the Quake III mod scene. There are even plenty of map makers, modelers, etc., etc...
I know of a few people who write music and distribute it for free, just for the love of doing it.
I myself spend many an hour writing the Alternate Fire mod, just because I like to see people have fun.
Yes, without money, people have no motivation to do anything at all.

Speaking of NetMeeting, does anyone know of a kernel module for 2.4 or 2.2 that will handle H323?

you're just supporting the shocked knee jerk reaction that the perpetrators wanted to generate.
Sorrow? Okay. You'll have to re-explain to me the meaning of the word TERROR-ist, then.
You Slashidiot.

Microsoft is evil! Boycott fur!

I'll run it on my nonexistant IA64 machine!

Oh my heck...I just had the craziest mental image. It's Linus and Alan Cox.
Alan: PUSH Linus! PUSH!!
Ack...

You are obviously a sad geek who never got laid.. I feel sorry for you.
No, I'm happily married to a wonderful woman, and I have a beautiful baby girl.
Next.

At regular intervals I take stuff from the -ac tree and feed it to Linus.
...because I need to feed Linus blocks that are debuggable. Thus I don't want to feed Linus both file system and disk driver changes at once...
I also don't feed Linus code that has active maintainers unless the maintainer has asked me to do so.
So Linus eats code. Everything is so clear now...
So this is what you've been doing at HP? A lot of us have been wondering.
Oh, I am terribly sorry. Have I hit a soft spot?

*sigh* The DMCA. Designed to protect Hollywood from nasty evil hackers who, but for that wonderful law...
No wonder they can't make a decent hacker movie!
