Considering slavery was a mitigating factor to a civil war..... no, it was not accepted in all quarters of society. But he was a southern gentlemen land owner, and having that position in southern society dictated that he keep slaves to tend to his property. Can he be critized? Sure, we all can. But I think applying today's standards for behaviour against someone in that environment is a bit harsh. I would rather judge him by the standards of his day and draw a conclusion from that.

There is no doubt hypocrisy is timelessly unapproved and have sex with the slaves could say something about his morality.

I think I believe he is a great man because that is what has been taught to me, to be honest I don't know much about his flaws but this discussion will inspire me to look further into and for that.... I thank you.

Jefferson had sex with his slaves.

But slave ownership at the time was socially accepted. I wouldn't go so far as to judge an 18th century man in that environment against 21st century standards.

We aren't talking about a high school here that operates purely on public funds. When I went to school I had to pay tuition and in my 4 years the tuition was raised (4-10%) annually. Don't worry about the Universities they will get theirs.

But where will this lead? Will paintings created by students for an art assignment be sold? How about a literature assignments, will they be compiled into a book for short stories and then marketed by the University?
