  1. FORGET IT on Interview: Dr. Leon Lederman Answers · · Score: 2

Obviously I worded my comment wrong. I also didn't make the smiley large enough.

I was trying to say: "If you are working on a problem and Brainiac says 'That's a hard problem', that doesn't bode well for your future."

As for the "but". Sure, the best supported cards are the BT848/878-based ones. But I can't find any cards based on this chipset that have video in AND out (WinTV-D is apparently out only...). Know of any?

When I buy it, I intend to mention that their support of Linux is the reason I chose them. Be sure you do the same.

Get a big hard drive and copy all the libraries the game needs over to it. Copy a kernel, too. Then if you want to play a game that doesn't work on the "new fangled" stuff, boot that saved kernel and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the saved libraries.

  16. Windows has good hardware support? on Loki Porting Alpha Centauri, Sim City 3k and More · · Score: 2

That depends on what you mean by "good". If you mean a large breadth of support, then yes, Windows has good support.

But if you mean a large depth of support, as in "Yeah, I got that new SDG 123 card and slapped it in this weekend", then Windows sucks. When I used to run Windows I would never let any hardware less than 6 months old touch it (and I preferred to wait 12 months). Why? Because installing new hardware is guaranteed to toast Win95.

But still, "better than Linux", right? Yes. For now. But as more hardware vendors jump on the Linux bandwagon with open specs/drivers we'll see Linux boxes make the phrase "bleeding edge" a thing of the past.

Well, I can't find a SINGLE FREAKING CARD ANYWHERE that:

I dunno about pant sizes (since my jeans were so old their actual size bore little relation to the number printed on the label), but I AM on my third belt.

I used to wear a belt only with my work clothes. After I had to tighten that about three notches I had to also start wearing a belt with my jeans. A couple (hand-punched) notches later I switched to a new belt. I worked all the way down that one and into some more hand-punched holes. I'm about halfway down my third belt now.

Once I saw how easy it was to lose the weight I stopped being as strict as advocated on the site. The bit thing for me was the charting. If I can get the feedback I do the work. Unfortunately I've moved and my scale is still in storage. So I haven't charted for over 2 months. I haven't had to loosen my belt yet, but I may have to soon....

I also highly recommend the exercise program. I figured it would be lame, but after I started I loved it. The only reason I'm not doing it now is that until we find an apartment we're living with someone else--and I don't want to exercise in front of everyone.
