    The overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is both happening now, and caused by man, and not a desirable thing.

      I don't know what "agenda driven climatoligists" you refer to. Maybe "agenda of wishing to survive" climatoligists. I suppose you could sya those folks do have an agenda.

    But, obviously you know the opinion of "the world's best." I guess you don't need anyone else telling YOU what to think, smart guy.

    If you examine the ruins of any extinct civilization, you will almost uniformly find that they were destroyed by a sudden change in the weather. The cliff dwellings in Southern Colorado, Easter Island, hell even the Romans seem to have been the victims of an unusually cold spell around the depths of the Dark Ages.

    That's not lunatic fringe talking, sir. That's historical fact. We ignore it at our extreme peril.

    I'm getting the impression that like most wealthy men, Jobs was a massive narcissist and meglomaniac who constantly had to shove his dick in the world's face to show us all how fucking awesome he was.

    But like most sociopathic narcissists, Jobs' non-stop self-deluding garbage was just bullshit. Having successfully founded a cult built around buying products, Jobs ended his life trying to assure his eternal control over everything in his purview -- like any narcissist. I don't think he EVER grasped anything beyond his own self-centered needs.

    Problem with fashion is the name means more than the look itself.

    Trouble yourself to understand why this is. If you don't have proprietary lock-in/ownership of killer app, all you have to trade on is the quality of your manufacturing work.

    That is what fashion labels offer. My wife likes to buy and sell these designer purses online. Fake ones are looked on very differently, because the quality of manufacture just isn't the same.

    If software companies were banking on the quality of their finished product rather than the patented features of their sloppy-ass third-rate implementation of protected intellectual property, don't you think the IT industry would have a much better reputation? As it is people find computers relentlessly buggy and difficult to use, EVEN THE DAMN IPHONE. Maybe if quality was the #1 job, instead of 'safely-protected revenue stream,' our nation's economy wouldn't be such a horrorshow, either.

    After all, for the last 20 years at least, it seems that American businesses value being first (and alone) in line to capture a revenue stream, rather than being the best product on the market.

    It's no wonder our economy sucks.

    Fox News has gone to court to protect their right to broadcast falsehoods. No other media outlet has done so to my knowledge.

    Are you not clear on how that works? I didn't go to a friend 25 years ago and say "hey, tape me some Rush." Instead, a friend came to ME and said, "you play bass. You should hear this."

    People make copies and give it out because they like the group/artist, and think someone else might like it too. In your scenario, having a $0.99 gateway is just an impediment to that kind of word-of-mouth advertising. No, I do not trawl the iTunes store or any other mp3 store looking for stuff that I might be interested in paying for that I've never heard.

    All the software in the world won't reproduce that dynamic, and the RIAA can stick their fingers in their ears and scream PIRACY all they like, but the undisputed fact remains that word-of-mouth and home recording is a significant factor in making music successful.

    I'm already there. I could not justify $130 a month for 500 channels of mindless puree. And I'm still not sure how we got to paying for commercials. One thing maybe these fuckwits could take note of is that customers pay for TV to get away from the goddamn commerical interruptons. I am sticking with Netflix because I tried Hulu as an alternative, and the every-10-minutes commercial interruption (which was in no way "limited" at all) was enough of a nuisance that I decided I refuse to pay $8/mo for some fucking bullshit to be bleated in my ear while I'm trying to relax.

    I didn't know "grandma" was the problem the iPad was meant to solve.

    Demographic studies would seem to indicate that the main group using iPads are between 35-44. In other words, perfectly computer literate, probably well into their careers, and wealthy enough to afford the hefty price tag and maintenance (after all, you've got to send it back to change the battery).

    Also, I have used an iPad. It is just as quirky as any Windows computing device. I don't know where this delusion comes from that Apple products are more user-friendly, but from the perspective of someone who had to learn how to hook these damn things into my virtual desktop environment, I have had ample opportunity to experience the Apple user interface, and it is really nothing spectacular. It's just as badly-designed as every other user interface I've ever encountered.
