you can convert an ext2 partition to ext3 without mounting (including the / partition) on the fly. on your next reboot, it'll have a.journal file provided the partition type is set to ext3 or auto in/etc/fstab
haha, i know.. the most fun i had as a kid was going to the local arcade and teaming up with my friend on bubble bobble and being almost like local Gods for getting to level 100 with one quarter.
and like the poster above.. they didnt list super mario bros. 3 which lived up to the hype (remember The Wizard??) and then some.
disable telnet from inetd.conf, restart inetd, install ssh, no more worries (for now.. until someone finds a new exploit for ssh).. if you cant disable telnet, only only certain hosts from accessing telnet using tcpwrappers
oh please, you must be trolling, but in any case...
he was just making an case that you cant outlaw tools to commit a crime, cause somehow that person IS going to commit that crime... which makes common sense hence if i cant kill you with a gun, ill use a knife which are legal to own...
and plus, the article was an editorial opinion type article..
First of all GNOME runs on BSD.
why would they spend even MORE money reinventing the wheel making another desktop/gui? they like C (gtk+), since C is standard everywhere. plus they dont have to depend on a company that 'owns' the other most popular gui widget set for unix.
yes, they are a hardware maker. they make money off of hundred-thousand dollar sparc boxes. CDE is total crap and I used it for about 2 minutes on the Sun box we have here.
no joke, my neighbor has a year old hp, we installed windows 2000 on it, went okay, except the sound/modem thing wouldn't work at all, so we download the w2k drivers. the modem would not dial after we installed the drivers and then when it came to the sound, instant reboot! and then the kicker.. blue screen on startup. talk about untested drivers.. they shouldnt have them at ALL to download.
gee.. just surf to www.vim.org or any other vi tutorial on the net, learn the beginning commands(which only takea bout 5 minutes to master), memorize it, and you already can do twice as much as you can with pico.
i taught my coworker basic moving, cutting, copying, and pasting using vim in about 5 minutes. if you have anything to do with unix computers you'll have to know vi
this is what you do:
add a deb-src for unstable or testing line in your sources.list file and then compile and install perl, ssl, and then apache. or you might as well go to testing and apt-get dist-upgrade from there to get to get the latest/greatest stuff.
most of the RAM usage is probably with the Mozilla html engine. if you're running some GNOME apps already, then galeon won't take up that much more RAM itself (shared libraries get loaded only once).
um, cause maybe he LIKES having everything in a package, and the.deb databases clean, not with a bunch of cruft left over from installing software locally. and with debian you can be sure that it's been properly tested and is almost guaranteed to work (yes, usually for unstable this is true).
once you try debian, you don't wanna go back to any other distro.
it was most definetly mozilla's newish image rendering engine (libpr0n). i had to click or highlight some images sometimes for them to show. i supposed it's gotten better with this new release
what's so wrong about them spending their money on new features and maybe some innovations? outside of operating systems and office suites, microsoft has no monopolies and there were already established PDA's and game consoles in the market. plus free software people can copy their ideas and try to make better software than Microsoft can. Anyone who uses KDE and GNOME knows that it's borrowed a lot from the Windows/Macintosh GUI.
other than the Windows OS, if the consumers only wind up with one choice it's THEIR own fault !
theres also Audiogalaxy. theres an easy to use windows client AND a linux binary only daemon, which works, but is clunky to set up. it's still centralized like Napster, but it's definetly the place to go for mp3s now a days (has anyone TRIED the official napster servers lately? can't find anything good.. )
no, you can use any BSD licensed software any way you want. there's no restrictions other than posting the BSD license somewhere in the software and even that, you don't have to do anymore (i think)
he did nothing wrong, it's just ipf is now against the openbsd goals in that they make modifications to the codebase themselves and they want their users to do the same.
why should they? they only have to give out the
source code to people they distribute their product to. and you can probably get 95% of
the programs they used from the Net anyways.

you might as well say.. do they really want to eat?

you can never be totally secure.

the newest kde (from cvs around the beginning of June is the last time I updated) can do tear off menus now.

yeah, and it was closed source for how many
years? i doubt it uses an assembly in the
source, which would make it non-portable.
run mozilla as root to do the install. it worked for me on a .8 build

informative, definetly not.
it's free as in beer, right?
you so missed the mark on this one...
