"Value-Added" means that a processs or resource added is worth the cost and improves the overall worth of something beyond its cost.
The story is a negative example of that concept because for a bloated cost you acheive here what could have been acheived on any other piece of hardware. So it is not value-added.
Maybe not. But a group that can't see other important issues because of one issue that they own is jeapordizing its own relevancy to the rest of society. That's fundamentalism in a nutshell.
"It also raises the interesting prospect of individuals seeking out the dark corners of the internet, perhaps to preserve their privacy or perhaps for more nefarious reasons."
Nefarious reasons is always a subcategory of 'to preserve their privacy'. But more and more it is a small subsection as interest in privacy grows.
It was a game that became talked about at a water cooler. It changed to game of "who gamers are".
In other words, it allowed gaming to be considered on level footing with books, movies and tv shows because it was something almost anyone could relate to and find interesting. It made gaming a respectible type of personal entertainment. Where as, prior to Myst, gaming was a very very niche market.
And as a market comparison goes, in the gaming market, Microsoft had a huge impact in the market right away.
And in the mobile market... they inspire crickets.
So, naturally, Microsoft is not going to be able to get away with applying the same strategy to mobile that they did for gaming. Because they ARE applying that same strategy for mobile currently and there is no parallel response in the market of mobile that there was in the market of gaming.
If I compare the disposable attitude I have toward a video game life, I would think that it's far more important for a Drone pilot to value the tool he is using. We wouldn't want him throwing away a half million dollar tool right at the beginning of the game because he was more concerned with slurping his Mountain Dew.
I remember one day, not so long ago really, a school was there to focus on a purpose. And that was to educate. They didn't get into all of these other side purposes which distract them and disperse their ability to focus.
When you think everything is your responsibility, you will not be doing well at the thing that really is your responsibility. You can bank on that.
To truly create the anonymity you are looking for, you should create 200 accounts on each service and spend every day creating false data to obfuscate the real you. Spend at least 10 times the time you would normally spend on Facebook, Reddit, Google accounts and Spotify doing things you'd never do. No algorithm would ever truly know if you were a My Little Pony customer or a porn addict.
"When you’re dying of malaria, I suppose you’ll look up and see that balloon, and I’m not sure how it’ll help you. When a kid gets diarrhea, no, there’s no website that relieves that.
When my kid gets diarrhea the first thing I did was went online to lookup what the causes could be, what the home remedies (if any) were, at what point I should be concerned enough to schedule a doctor visit (or an ER visit for that matter). If a doctor visit is necessary I can then look up what doctors are nearby and accepting patients, or schedule an appointment with our existing doctor, or check wait and travel times to an emergency center. So... yes, there is in fact a website (several actually) that helps me cope with my child being sick, it can't magically cure them, but it can help manage resources (both parental and medical network resources) much more efficiently.
That's because you live in a world that has doctors and ERs. The children in the area that Bill was talking about do not live in such a world.
I know it has been discussed many times to password lock access to stored passwords, though because browsers are not user-specific, this has not been done.
Solution: If security is important to you, don't be lazy.

I'll assume that's sarcasm. =)
Cuz, I didn't get the memo that the purpose of discussion was to affirm the opinions of someone else.
That's not their part of the job.

I get the sense that the FSF, though having some very good ideals, has no understanding of the importances of "just works" and "value added".
Agreed. It makes me wonder if WB has an automated Score Takedown software when it detects ironic comparissons to their evil.
To Slashdot Mod Point holders: An ironic comparisson used to express outrage over a topic is NOT off-topic.
#1 Zinga buys it.
#2 Freer software comes out that can fulfill the utility.
#3 ParanoidAndroid and AdAway are not capable of taming the program the way I'd like.
I'd much rather have metal arms ...
Your choice for bionic improvements is a wise one. There's really no better option against the coming drone/police state.

This is also an issue with nomenclature. A "hacker" to the general public is a bad guy. They don't really understand the term.
Are we asking whether Google should commit the same enormous Open Source/GPL faux pas that Oracle committed with MySQL?
Seeing as Google is actively dumping MySQL for that very reason, I'd say, "No!"

After reading your comment, I got the distinct feeling that everything was hopeless and we should all give up. You're not some old guy are you?

My steps:
1. Opt out completely by first installing Cyanogen.
Steve Balmer is a wealther man today for not resigning.
Microsoft's error, on the other hand, is that they did not fire him.
Unless you're unlucky enough to draw the 5th Circuit.

Context, Mozee. Context.

Childish?

And aren't people who do things while in a group still responisble for their actions?
Getting back to the context for a moment, are you implying that computers can make decisions which cause businesses to be evil?
