You're correct that Ivanhoe reservoir hasn't been having much problems. That's a chlorinated concrete reservoir that is closer to a swimming pool than a lake. Besides the chlorine it's lacking nutrients and it's oxygen levels will stay high.
Most reservoirs, even man made ones in California, are lakes. I didn't see any information on what lake/reservoir this is being done too. But regardless people are talking of doing this to other bodies of water, even sectioning off parts of lakes.
They are creating an environment for an algae bloom that are starting to cause problems everywhere.
The algea blooms, which are not truly algae but are cyanobacteria, use less light(lower wave length) want low oxygen environments with lower water turbulence. And they are creating that.
Once cyanobacteria bloom starts, it's very difficult and costly to control. It' has very few natural predictors, I don't know of any freshwater ones, and worse yet, cyanobacteria can create toxins that have killed dogs running through it.
This isn't science, but scientists way of playing politics.
Yes, alarmist, fear-mongering, add in a few facts, some blaming. Still blaming the all mighty Nuke but adding another point, climate change, to their soapbox.
But yes, I also agree with your implied sentiment that using a clock where we are at 99.79% at the end when at most we got as low as 98.75% with USA and Soviet signing Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, and the Soviet Union dissolves.(and that was after the Fall of the Berlin Wall) IMHO the clock should have been set back hours for each of those, not minutes.
I agree, darkmail makes it sound bad at the start.
But I would go a step further, call it SMTPv2 (if changes to SMTP) or Mail 2.0, or webmail 2.0. A name that has no scariness in it. (other than playing off of web 2.0 crap) It will just sound like the logical next step and doesn't imply anything that the media can take as bad.
Maybe you have a chance to man handle a 6'2" 250lb man who's spent 5 of the last 10 years in jail working out, but my wife will use a gun to keep her and kids safe.
You say that there are situations where other self defense should be used rather than a gun, implying that some other thing can stop them, and that you would get other chances. If your or ones you care about are under serious physical threat, then you do what you have to. The best way is to avoid situations like the yelling matches (please see "More Guns, Less Crime" for data on people who CCW are involved with less crime). But when they don't give you a choice, I hope you got a good plan B on your hip.
My wife vs the above man has a better chance when they are both armed, than both not. (50% both armed Guns are the great equalizer. Oh and my wife is a better shot than I am.
I care not about the attacker when it comes to keeping my wife and kids safe. Male/female, 16 or 46, the outcome of the attacker is forfeit. Only after I insure safety of mine, will I consider the safety of the bad guy.
The right to bear arms is the right to carry. Now please stop turning us into victims.
I completely agree. The vast majority of people who decide to carry legally are more even headed and are involved in a lot less crime than those who don't. See the book "More guns, Less crime" for data, it also shows pretty good correlation that more guns means less crime and safer streets.
Because we are the type of person who want to be prepared for bad things, we are also the type to avoid bad things. Getting into a shoving match is the result of more than one bad choice.
Nearly half of the conceal class I took was more or less teaching how screwed you are in shooting someone, even if self defense.(see Zimmerman)
However, leaving or running away isn't always an option, when you have family who depend on you to keep them safe.
Here in Utah, Susan Powel disappeared w/o any trace . . . Nina Reiser disappeared with almost no traces at least 1 of those Cleveland women found was an adult with next to no traces of foul play
People don't just disappear with out a reason.
The cops are doing this because its a lot of work that shows little results. IE, they feel it's a waste of time.
There is only on kind of soap that works, the one that ALL the doctors are using, the plain, simple, normal SOAP. No artificial ingredients, no strawberry scent (who wanna to eat soap!!!) nothing.
While most medical staff do indeed use plain soap, surgeons at least, are required to use antibacterial soap.
" It wasn't so long ago that the Russian mafia targeted a Russian security specialist by kidnapping his daughter, raping her, injecting her with heroin and selling her into slavery."
Not that I doubt you, but I never heard of this, who was this? how long ago?
I'd rather you shoot at me with birdshot at 50m away than even a 22lr at 100 yards.
The multiple smaller masses energy dissipates faster in our atmosphere.
Not to mention in asteroid, as it enters our atmosphere, there is more surface area, thus more of its mass gets burned up before impact, if impact even occurs.
Williams recreates a ShadowStats Alternative unemployment rate reflecting methodology that includes the “long-term discouraged workers” that the Bureau of Labor Statistics removed in 1994 under the Clinton administration.
The BLS publishes six levels of unemployment, but only the headline U3 unemployment rate gets the press. The headline number does not count “discouraged” unemployed workers who have not looked for work in the past four weeks because they believe no jobs are available.
It is speculated our very large moon keeps our mantle nice and hot. But will it keep it hot enough and long enough who knows. Our core isn't as hot as it once was millions of years ago, and our rotation is slowing down.
Now, you may think that our gravity should be keeping the moons core hot, but the moon is locked, the same side if facing us, so no friction.
So, in theory, if we gave mars a large stable satellite, we could heat things up inside.
"Manufacturing hasn't gone down in the USA, but manufacturing employment has."
I'm more than willing to go with the factories are more efficient with employess and need less, but then please explain why it is to hard to find products made in USA anymore?
Tools, clothing, electronics, even freshwater fish at the local supermarket all come from china. It's like the only manufacturing we do anymore is food!
And really, we have a whole lot more people now, so the amount of manufacturing should go up, as there are a lot more people who need the goods. So if that graph shows it flat, then in actuality it is down.
Based off pollution:http://gas2.org/2009/06/03/one-container-ship-pollutes-as-much-as-50-million-cars/
Having the equivalent of 18,000 less ships * how much each ship pollutes relative to cars 50,000,000,000 = 900,000,000,000.
I think its overstated how many of those ships there are, however they all pollute a lot more than cars, and woudl be the easiest, cheapest bang for buck that can actually return as an investment relatively quick.
Therefore, the child doesn't deserve to be punished with death for a crime he or she didn't commit.
So forcing the kid to grow up as a reminder that mom was raped? Think that kid will feel loved, or even if that kid is loved well, knowing or finding out that you are here only because some jackass raped the #1 person in your life?
And have you ever been pregnant before, or an S.O? It's not exactly something wonderful unless you are looking forward to what they are creating. Puking, bloating, weight gain, morning sickness, damage tot he body, even risk of death, loss of work, new clothing. Waking up every morning "fatter" than the day before because you got raped. So, 9 months of punishment for the mom plus the delivery. And what about caring for this kid? Who pays? oh punish the one who was raped again.
And to expound on another pearlier point, giving birth is not without risks. Sure, modern medicine has made it feel almost trivial, but the risk is always there, some more than others. Who gets to make that call of what risk is acceptable?
And what about daddy? Does he have access to the kid? and to the mom? Lawsuits? Who pays for all this? and who is being punished?
I am always disgusted when other people feel the need to take away rights of others so that they can feel empowered.
I am not sure I under stand this reference or meaning of that statement. Could you please elaborate on it.

Because installing solar panels, the panels themselves is only a small part. And much of the penels price is made up by things like shipping.
So if installation of solar panels cost 19k for 3% vs 20k for 9%, which one is the better choice?
+1
Nearly every advancement of civil rights came from people breaking laws.
That is quite profound, and true!
If they don't have evidence when they arrested you, why did they arrest you?
It becomes just another way of fishing. And another way for the gov to rule the people.

Still using the old dishwasher, clothes washer, and sandwich-maker as before with only the cost of most of my income and diamond ring. . . .
