This is exactly correct. There's plenty of us who left github and are never coming back. Obviously the microsoft devs will be represented in the numbers, but we won't.
It took close to 8 years for Obama to repair the damage from the 2008 crash.
That damage includes
* the US federal debt, which has certainly not gone back to pre-2008 levels
* the income inequality within US society, which hasn't been this high since the 1930s, and student loans, payday loans, and consumer debt are at near crisis levels. Much of a whole generation of americans have been left behind.
* the systematic risk of big banks which the banks have since only gotten bigger and more systematically risky
* the worldwide loss in confidence in the financial system (the 2008 crash was not limited to the US)
* QEing the american dollar into the point where it's no longer possible to use america's unique status as the world's reserve currency to get out of a crisis again.
Some progress has been made in picking up the pieces, but the problems caused by the Obama administration's actions will take generations to fix, and with global climate change there isn't that much time left.
This man has no business being in any kind of freedom of the press event. This man who has shut down media in Canada for being against the government. He's passed laws which gives the government carte blanche to jail people for being the wrong kind of media, without legal representation in rotating-door permanent prison sentence without access to the red cross. His laws interfere with private conversation on newsworthy topics by making saying certain things, and has made studying certain areas also illegal. This is the same man who has presided over a government that has used fake news, propaganda in order to limit the ability of our media to make sense of the world, and who wants to engage in a war on math to make sure we can't even *hide* our news gathering, and news dissemination activities from the government. And don't get me started about the state run CBC and how badly they fail us.
If your digital media has ads, it is doing something you are not directly in control of. Ads should be seen no differently than seeing people around you throw up - your computer is infected and should be investigated/cleaned. If children are being exposed to ads, that's a sign of parental neglect. Don't use proprietary software, you won't have this problem.
and secure the necessary power contracts to run them.
Massive power contracts are more expensive than most available power. The problem isn't the power, it's access to equipment. Something that the entire world outside of china has massively underfunded investment into the prerequisites for. People still use electric and fossil fuel based heating systems rather than running bitcoin miners to produce heat (including for heating food). There is plenty of low hanging fruit of energy that is simply wasted.
I moved all my repositories off of github, and deleted my github account. Then I went on a downloading spree and grabbed as much repositories as I could on the day the deal was announced. Since then I've been slowly uploading to notabug doublechecking that I have everything - the goal will be to have an OS that has 0 github maintained code in it, and *definitely* no github code without a license in it. I have a thread on NSA/Facebook if anyone would like to help coordinate this effort.
I will never use github again, and code which treats github code as upstream will be migrated away from github to a non-microsoft platform first. Microsoft can suck sand if they think after a decade of war that I will ever touch any of their products again. If they think they can take over and extinguish the free software movement, they are wrong.
Current task: getting a new gogs instance up since i hit my repository limit on notabug
If this becomes widespread, it gives microsoft direct control over the platform which code is run. Given the history of microsoft, we should expect them to try to push in this direction. This is the sort of thing that could lose you the right to read. Avoid like the plague.

2) Only use Fdroid and
3) vanilla stock AOSP build without Google's spyware, if you choose to use Android Linux.
