Any private company or citizen can censor all they want. The protections of free speech are toward the government NOT against free citizens or the companies they own.

If Yahoo decides it does not want child nudity on flicker, they can decide such. It is their site, their business. To declare otherwise is "forced speech" which is just as bad as "censorship".

The government should not be able to censor your freedom of speech. But a private entity is not required to allow you the same leeway. If your employer says you cannot discuss the current project if you wish to retain employment - they are within their right to do so.

Some where along the way, we let politics !@#$% everything up. So people get offended if Blockbuster (a private company) decides to censor the property they own. Or if Yahoo decides to limit what content can be posted and hosted on their site. Thinking some constitutional right has been violated - it hasn't. But instead they want to tread the dangerous ground of forcing open speech and acceptance on private companies and citizens. Blind of the dangers such actions lead too.

    > Almost ALL of congress votes themselves abnormal raises, participate in the most lucrative of retirement programs, spend pork barrel upon barrel. Congress is a 1,000 times worse than any president.

They just happen to sell a gallon of oil for about everything else sold. And of course they're going to have record profits. Oil usage is sky-rocketing. It's called CHINA.

Oh, why are oil prices so high? Three reasons:

    1. Foolish environmental protections: Like not drilling in the gulf. While Cuba, China and Venezuela begin drilling there. Except with a lot less safety and environmental protections than we'd have. And the Anwar. Yes, drilling in a tiny pin drop of Alaska 700 miles away from the nearest tree is BAD....

We'd be better off drilling, and offering a special tax, with that tax going to provide tax breaks on solar cells, and plug-in hybrids.

Refinery's we haven't built any in years because of environmental regulations. The result is we don't have the capacity we need. No nuclear plants have been built in the U.S. for decades. And it's been nearly half a century since they were designed. The safety has improved a lot. It's like comparing a Prius to a Ford Model-T.

    2. We're not innovating, developing new technologies, and protecting those technologies. (ie: last time new technologies were being developed, OPEC slammed the prices down in order to kill them).

    3. Increased demand as more and more nations industrialize. Meanwhile, Congress - yes Congress, not the President, has so mis-allocated the funds and taxes. Spending the next few decades today. No, it's not just the war. We've been in budgetary financial crisis for decades. Money that should have been devoted to weening us off of foreign oil is squandered on pork-barrel projects.

First off, the Gulf is being drilled. Just not by us. Cuba & China. And you know those crappy products you get from China. Imagine that sub-par drilling. And guess what. They don't care because if they release a billion gallons of oil into the gulf. It's simply going to destroy Florida's coast. Oh well.

ANWAR, one of the drilling spots is 700 miles from the nearest tree. Drill, even a leak could be easily cleaned by collecting it from the ice. Which would freeze and harden the oil.

The wise thing would be to have the military drill those spots regardless of Congress in order to make the military independent of foreign oil. Then have all the excess sold for profit to fund tax breaks for those who put solar cells on their homes, and buy plug-in hybrids & electrics.

But that's the type of thinking Conservatives have...solutions. Versus Liberals who just want to blame.

    1. Job requires it for towing, cargo, etc. (Qualified vehicles include: Truck, Van, SUV)

    2. Large family (Qualified vehicles include: Van, Mini-van, SUV, and the no longer made full sized station wagon.)

    3. Luxury / Status symbol.

Of the first two requirements, only two vehicles meet the need. A van or an SUV, with SUVs being the predominant choice for many.

The third class tend to either buy large Cadillacs and crossover SUVs. The latter, are probably the most useless vehicles on the planet. While they get better mileage than your work-horses. Few get mileage comparable to a sedan. Yet, the passenger seating is very similar in most case. FYI, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is NOT a true SUV. It has very little rear-axle towing capability. It is really more a SUV-stylized mini-van.

So where will the future lead? I believe it will lead to both smaller commuter vehicles and much larger vehicles.

Eventually, the fuel hurdle will be resolved. Probably with a combination of technologies, electric drive trains, and algae based bio-fuel generators & fuel cells. We will see quick, light , efficient commuter vehicles. But we will also see much larger vehicles.

However, the bigger trigger for these larger vehicles are technological advances yet to come.

    a) alternative fuel methods

    b) self-driving vehicles.

The latter will be the big driving factor in larger vehicles. In 15-25 yrs you will see mobile living rooms. If your vehicle can drive for you. Then that trip to visit the relatives over the weekend becomes easier. Instead of driving 5 hours each way and having a day and 1/2 to spend with family. You now let your car drive Friday night. Wake up an enjoy your Saturday & Sunday. Then go to bed and your vehicle drives you home over Sunday night. And you wake up Monday morning for work.

    That is the future...

Smaller commuter vehicles, and much larger mobile living rooms.
