So... if this is as you say, what was all that stuff I heard recently about being able to install widgets or something onto the widget bar remotely through a web page without the user's consent.
If you had Safari set to "run safe files automatically after download", which it is set to by default, a webpage could (I assume) use a meta refresh tag to initiate a download of a wdgt file.
Safari downloads it and runs it. Dashboard inserts it in the widget bar.
Apple releases 10.4.1 which turns the safe files thing off by default.
Apple's page (the one linked in the post) clearly states that the recall is for the 15 inch aluminum Powerbook only.
Apple is voluntarily recalling certain lithium ion rechargeable batteries that were sold worldwide from October 2004 through May 2005 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4. These batteries were manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.
if you're going before a school committee they most likely have their decision made already. if you want to seriously suggest an OSS alternative it may be a good idea to set up a test server, install it, play with it, learn the capabilities of the OSS programs, and be able to answer any questions they may throw at you.
Parent referred to using CTRL+TAB w/in an MDI interface. He made a reference to Mac OS X, where CMD+TAB switches apps and CMD+` switches windows... he never said a word about Safari.
Surely it wouldn't take them that long to code Vorbis support?!:)
However... is the amount of iPods that would sell because of this feature (or not sell because of lack of this feature) to the vocal minority who clamors for it in every iPod thread here on/. worthwhile to finance development of an offical Vorbis plugin for iTunes/QuickTime plus a firmware upgrade for the iPods?
The thing is if you use your video ipod to store films on for playing on TV, then you have to store them (and download them from itms) in HDTV resolution. And then fudge them down to the 2" screen in hardware.
That's where the oh-so-scalable H.264 MPEG codec comes in... scales from HDTV all the way down to... well super tiny screens.
But has anyone considered that the video iPod would most likely be a massive launch. And we all know that Apple likes to keep massive launches secret (save for rumor sites). So if it was in the near future, I doubt we'd be seeing video in iTunes until the day of release.

There's a big difference between saying your x86 machine has a better resolution than Apple's current offerings and saying Dell offers better resolution.
The former implies that Apple's resolution is weaker because they aren't using x86 chips
Powerbooks are about due for an upgrade though, the 17" has been at the same resolution since its inception IIRC
You must have really shitty luck to have two Macs fail within a month of purchase. You also have a shitty repair shop - a Mac repair should consist of calling Apple, asking for a box, and waiting a few days for turnaround.
I'm not even going to touch your x86 means better resolution comment
iPad is already taken. it's what the iPod is marketed as in boston.
i'll be here all week, try the veal

Local schools, too, will take in such equipement.
In high school, the director of technology let my friends and I clean out an entire room being used for parts storage. What we didn't throw out we got to take home. Trust me, schools don't want your old shit - they have plenty of their own to deal with.
our university network got taken down by sasser this past september
to avoid that this fall when all the freshmen come in again, they're implementing a registration system.
first time you plug your computer in and open a browser, you get a page. you have to enter your school username and password. the system records your mac address and checks you for the exploits du jur and an antivirus. if your comptuer is OK, your MAC address is recorded as OK and you're permitted to access the network. If not, you get instructions on how to secure the machine and try again.

Problem solved.
I value my security, that's why after reading those I switched to AOL Server
If only he could call up Leo and Patrick and have them help out...that would be excellent.
Leo, Patrick, Kevin, and occasionally Roger, Yoshi, and some others have been doing a weekly Podcast called This Week in Tech... TWiT site

More like Onenote integrated in Word? (yep, I'm really clueless, I guess ;)
Best way to describe it I'd say
WTF are you talking about?

Yes. We get it. We got it the first four times you posted it. Thanks.
Some of us like to keep all our browser pages consilidated in one window, why is that such a horrid idea?
And Opera's switcher between windows in an MDI is predated by mIRC's

My PC was less than 15 pounds but the PowerMac feels more like 40.
Actually... you're just about spot on:
From Apple.com:
Weight: Single-processor configuration, 36 pounds (16.4 kg); dual-processor configuration, 44.4 pounds (20.2 kg) (5)

There are those of us who bought a mini 3 months ago and don't think that forking out 25% of the original system price for 10.4 is reasonable
Yeah. It really pissed me off to no end that all those installs of Panther just totally stopped working at 6pm on April 29th
erm... why?
i don't need to know what a male 9 pin serial to male telephone cable looks like... it's a male 9 pin serial, a piece of wire, and an RJ-11 jack
