A 30 inch monitor, 16:10 aspect ratio , and 2560 x 1600
The only reason I would want much higher resolution that that is to overcome the problem of scaling on digital displays, in the old days of analog monitors we could run differehttp://hardware.slashdot.org/story/14/06/17/224208/4k-monitors-not-now-but-soon#nt resolutions wothout it looking like shit.
I currently have a 28 inch 1920 x 1200 monitor, but they don't make those anymore,
When there are multiple cities of the same name in different states, it would be a good idea to mention the state, its only a couple of bytes extra in the text after all Of course there are other Portland s in otheer countries too.
" KILOMETERS (that's a unit of measure, common in the rest of the world - think of it as something like half a mile) "
Actually the unit of measure common in the rest of the world Kilometre is more like 6 tenths of a mile. I tend to think of it as 186/300 (as in thousands of, per second (light speed))
But we don't need to go hundreds of Km down to get enough energy to vapourize (and desalinate) the oceans that are on the surface of the planet. and provide the rest of our energy needs. There are places where the magma is pretty close to the surface (Iceland, Hawaii, the central part of The North Island, Yellowstone...
"People on the coast can move or build sea walls or something. It's not that big a deal. There is plenty of uninhabited non-coastal land."
Sea level rise is not the biggest problem of climate change/global warming. In recorded and pre-recorded history, the weather/climate phenomenon thst has killed the most people is drought. While there may be some regions in the north that are able to grow more crops due to the warmer weather, most of it won't be suitable for farming.
The world won't be able to support N billion people if we let it warm by 5 degrees
"Geological processes tend to reduce the global temperature, due to the release of sulpher dioxide which reflects sunlight in the upper atmosphere"
That is true of the big, violent eruptions like Mt St Helens, and the Indonesian volcanos. However the small, bubbly lava type (Hawaii) volcanoes don't get to put their stuff into the upper atmosphere, and the CO2 they do produce still acts as a greenhouse. Of course if a geothermal hot spot is under an ice sheet, then it has to melt the ice first before it can spew into the atmosphere.
I suppose its possible to make steel from wood cellulose (and iron ore) but you're going to need more energy input. Generally the carbon used to make steel comes from coal, so using a renewable source of carbon is betteer for the environment, but where do you get the extra energy?

It would take some very skillful flying to spray paint the camera without colliding with the drone

Yep, I thought Armor Piercing CS (gas) round might be useful for getting the crew to bail out so you can capture the tank and use it afterward.

Antarctica is pretty damn big.

"in the truly -20ÃC temperatures it feels closer to an average winter's day in the UK."
Except theres no snow, sleet, or rain, so its not really like a UK winters day.
Reform Party? Wasn't that Ross Perot's party ? Is he still around?
I think Jesse (the body) was part of that at one stage, but I don't think he is standing again. I would vote for him if he ran for Gov again.
I think United Kingdom has been around for longer as an independent country, Ukraine was just part of the Soviet (and before that Russia) empire.
