>(and it sucks that there's really no way to compare fairly). so you have to use real world apps to compare performance, in this case Bibble, or you could use Photoshop... curiously, Apple doesn't show many Photoshop benchmarks anymore and as other tests have shown, Intel pc's are faster at most things (videoediting, etc). However, this shows that the Altivec unit makes up for the increasing GHz/MHz difference between PowerPC chips and x86 chips
The german magazine Der Spiegel recently had an article about grade inflation in Germanyand came to the conclusion that professors didn't want to give students low grades because of the bad economy and high unemployment rate in Germany, so as to not send the students out in the "wild" without any chance to get empoyed
My Palm Pilot Personal (upgraded to 512Kb memory and IR) still works (bought it end 1998 if I remember correctly...) though I'm using a Sony NR770C/E now

They haven't been ported to 64-bit, the ppc970 can run 32-bit ppc apps natively, only the os, panther has been ported to 64-bit.
not that it was rather obvious that apple would release a computer based on the ppc970 this year...
or I should rather say: it can under some circumstances partly make up for the speed difference
