The best thing to do is teach at a school for a while, then go to private lessons.. YOu can stay in mex for up to 6 months on a tourist visa and can even get health ins. on that visa.
Your savings may not be all that much when compared to teh average US citizen, but if you have 30K in central america or parts of mexico, you are a rich rich man.
