    Here in Europe, many countries tax blank media and playback devices [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_copying_levy] in order to 'compensate' artists for 'lost' revenue. How long before Europe's telcos, (most of whom have strong lobbying power), actually get something like this either legislated, or get Google to cough up some money just by threatening to get it legislated?

    Yeah, and what are they going to do, tax users for accessing Youtube? Or better yet they can block Youtube until Google pays.

    Followed by millions of angry users switching to another ISP.

    The morally right/wrong question is bullshit spewed by those who think the human body is somehow sacred.

    Yet there is an argument against going _TOO_ far down this path, e.g. doing more than fixing the worst of genetic diseases, and that is the danger of homogenization of the human population. We want variety to ensure our survival.

    Ok... this kind of a phenomena might not be hard to understand for many in the west. Yet if you look at e.g. Japan, you'll find plenty of examples of similar services where the main goal isn't dipping your dick in a hole or jacking off.

    Flashcards are one thing that does not always do better in a digital form. Sure, use them on a computer, but also have dead tree format for when you're commuting or just happen to have a few minutes to practice.

    Do you know who loses money when people are sick? The government that doesn't get tax income and has to pay social security. Only time they don't lose money is for end-of-life treatment and that doesn't really deserve all the resources some want spent on it anyway.

    And a strawman it was... The Israeli law (assuming it's the same as a few months ago) prioritizes registered organ donors when the patients are _EQUALLY_ suited from a medical perspective.

    There is nothing intrinsic to an MMO that requires such an expansion/leveling grind. For a good example look at EvE Online... Free regular expansions that widens the breadth of the game, not the skill depth.

    Well, if they have to get a court order to retrieve the data then Toyota will have a copy of it (prosecution can't 'lose' it) and it will have been retrieved under a court order (so the prosecution can't throw it away since it was 'useless').

    Seems most people are reacting to FUD and not realizing Toyota are the _GOOD_ guys here.

    You think that is Toyota being protected when a cop tries to 'prove' you were a reckless driver with blackbox data for hitting that drunk guy walking out on the road? Especially when the data is from 5 minutes earlier when you were going slightly above speed limits on a clear road but has no connection to how you were driving at that moment?

    A court might not let the prosecution retrieve that information, but won't help you much if they already got it through an usb interface in the dashboard of your car.

    Why would it be a good idea? I thought slashdot was all gung-ho about protecting people's privacy?

    If there really was a case of an accident caused by unintended acceleration then a court order would be piece of cake to get.
