There's nothing like massive consumer & media backlash to make someone change their mind, huh?
But the fact that they seriously thought that they could get away with it really bothered me. "Oh hey, we're Apple so you know that G4 400 that we said was going to cost you $1600? Well now that's gonna be a 350. But you can still get the 400 for $2,500 if you want." Total insanity. At least they got wise. I guess they banked on the fact that the Macintosh faithful are probably some of the most loyal consumers out there and thought that they could ream them just a little bit more.
I can't believe I'm saying this but - Way to go angry Mac users!
Bad example. You might know the cliff is there because it has physical existance. It is either there or it isn't. Something any one can see. It's not something that one can believe in because it exists. Period. However Hell is a concept/theory/idea that hasn't been proved to exist. Therefore it is something that someone can choose not to believe in if they so well please.
Unfortunately you're biting yourself on the ass with this one. The argument that you're beliefs are the correct ones and other people are wrong because of what they believe goes against the original point of tolerance of others ideas.

Anybody here ever play Car Wars by Steve Jackson Games? It was a vehicular combat board/roleplaying game that used this concept to prolong character lives (it was a rather violent universe). But to tell you the truth I don't see this as that far fetched. Moral issues aside, cloning a new body from your old cells shouldn't (in theory) be all that hard. We've already seen that happen with Dolly and I think one other animal (can't remember right now). Sure there are some complications with the process at this time, but let it mature a few years and I think that cloning will become a viable option. Even if the brain transfer is a bit of a long shot, consider that maybe individual organs could be grown for perfect match transplants. Or possibly even limb replacement. Sorry for the ramble, that possible sci-med-tech was always one of the things that facinated me.

Anyway as I stated in my other reply, my tone on the original post was a bit harsh. I give you that much. My arguments about Mac vs. Wintel were out of place, but I still believe that the numbers that Apple/Jobs uses are misleading to consumers. Especially the consumers they are targeting with this machine (novice/first time users).
Okay, maybe my tone was a little harsh in my previous post. Sorry about that. But my point is that Jobs/Apple do infact use misleading benchmarks in the marketing war against wintel. There is no question that Macs are the right kind of machines for graphics production/desktop publishing/ect...
Wait I'm falling into the same trap again.
Apple/Jobs uses misleading benchmarks. End of Argument.
What about Clue? That was a movie based on a board game. It was actually really funny and quite innovative (The triple ending scene. Which always gets shortened when it's on cable. Bastards).
Anyway someone else mentioned that fantasy doesn't exactly translate well into movies. I have to agree with this (Look at Willow, UGH!), but I think that the guy making this movie has his shit wired tight. Or at least it sounds like that from the article. Basically what I saying is that I have some hope Sorry if this is a dupe post. Getting timeouts.

Sorry man. I can't believe I'm saying this but, "i'm in th biz". And if you think about how much money they spend (think this summers episode 1 promotion), then it could be a worse deal.
I think this is the biggest waste of money out there. There are a lot better ways spend this money from a media standpoint. A few examples (not the best, hey its the end of the day):
Advertise in Money Magazine 20 times (~$120m an issue, not the best vehicle for the hut but I know the cost offhand) Adveritse in Wired Magazine 62 times (~$40m an issue) Buy 6:30 spots on ER (~$400m each) Put together a complete media plan for 1 year for most of out clients (who would kill to have that much money to drop on advertising)
But this assumes that the Hut has a finite budget. In reality any enitity that spends $200MM+ a year in advertising has to try new and different things to get noticed. And this is definitely different. To all of you that think no one will see this, I can pretty much guarentee that this will be picked up by local news stations (maybe even network if it's a slow news day, but after Japan who knows).
I've got a Panny A110 and on certain parts I noticed the audio dropping out for just a split second (happened about 5 times, can't remember exactly where). I thought that the A120 was supposed to be OK. From what I understand the problem comes from the inclusion of the DVD-ROM material which makes this a "hybrid" disc. Lots of players have been having problems with this (and other hybrid discs such as Lost in Space and the fouth disc from The Earth to the Moon series). For a list of players with problems go to The Digital Bits.
You make it sound like nuclear technology is inherently evil. Ummmm....It's not. Yes it's true that it has its downsides, but so do a hell of a lot of other things. I'll just touch on a few here
Oil -> Air Pollution -> We all die slowly and eventually run out of fuel Coal -> Air Pollution -> We all die slowly and eventually run out of fuel Hydro -> Environment Damage -> Fish all die (& everything that eats those fish) Solar/Wind -> Not effective -> We all freeze Nuclear ->/Possible/ accidents -> We all die slowly
So, sure nuclear energy can fuck us up. But so can a lot of other things that we are already using. Nuclear power is a clean, cheap, & long lasting source of energy. Ok, I wouldn't want one in my backyard. But it is still a necessary evil at this point.
Um. I have to disagree on that point. Have you heard of eBay or any of the other auction sites? How do you think sellers on eBay ship their stuff? Transporters? Bottom line, bartering usually works out to the benefit of both parties. Think about it, if you are willing to trade the item that you obviously don't really care about (be it baseball cards or your time) for something that you want/need, then you've come out ahead. And lets face it, if you were even willing to trade (an item or your time/skills) then it's obviously something that you don't value that much.
Okay I see your point about liking to see "everything" that is up for auction at one time. But you need to take into account eBay's sheer number of auctions. Right now they have what, close to 3MM items up for auction. Amazon has maybe 1-200M, Yahoo maybe a little bit more than that. Also most of the auctions on the other sites are mostly retailers selling stuff you could probably get at another (non auction) website for less money with less hassle. Believe me on that point if you agree with nothing else I have to say . Most of the stuff on eBay could be considered unique in nature as opposed to the commidity stuff found on the other sites.
I don't really think eBay gives a frogs fat ass if you can't (won't) bid on their stuff because they're not available on some "meta auction site". eBay is growing rapidly. They have to protect their trademark/bandwith/network integrity somehow.
The original Sega console system, the Sega Master system was powered by the z80. Back in the day that was the system to own. It didn't have tons of games but the graphics ruled the NES. They even made a converter for the Genesis that had a z80 in it for backwards Master System compatability. Great old system, still wouldn't trade my Dreamcast for one though.
My roommate works for MCI/Worldcom and he has one of those little buggers on his keychain. In his case the number it generates is used as the password for windows dial up networking. I might just be uninformed here but it seems a little extreme to use something like that for windows DUN. All I know is that the hyper-security of the thing makes his Internet really-really slow. But hey, I've got a cable modem. What do I care?
Ummm... don't mean to be critical here but I think you're a little off of you description of how a PC handles MP3s. On a PC the MP3s are stored on the hard drive. How many you can store is not related to memory at all (Playback is another story though, windows w/ only 32mb? Yuck!).
I assume that you are thinking of the Rio type devices that only have 32mb of memory. But then again they're not running windows.
True the first PPs (1k, 5k) didn't have backlights . But it was USR that implemented them in the second generation of Palms (Personal, Pro). I should know, I have a PPPro that says U.S. Robotics and not 3-Com.
But back on topic, yep 3Com/USR hasn't done too much with the thing since it came out. Here's everything that I can think of:
-backlight -more memory -IRDA port -different form factors (2) -improved screen
Considering how long it's been around, that's really not alot of innovation. I welcom the Visor and the competition thatit will bring.
Maybe I'll list it as *RARE* on eBay and replace it with a Visor.
Have you ever paid $700 for a motherboard upgrade? If you have, well I'm sorry.
