  1. Re:Yuck on Time Warner Cable NYC Begins DVR Distribution · · Score: 1

I have DirecTV. One of the HDTV units with the double dish. The enormous compression on most of the channels is embarrassing. The pixelation is out of control. Artifacts everywhere. They really need to do something about it, but I've called them and they seem pretty clueless about it all.

Damn, I have mod points, but none of the options says "-1 Bad Parent"

  3. Re:Overreacting much? on Wozniak Unveils WozNet · · Score: 1

Come on, everyone knows that the typical /.'er wants everything for free, but doesn't want "the man" knowing anything about them. Anything that helps the first (i.e. p2p) is good, and anything that has the POTENTIAL for helping the second (i.e. WozNet) is bad.

  4. half.com going bye-bye on Mighty Amazon · · Score: 1

This is a bit off-topic, but half.com is disappearing, probably by the end of the year. Ebay is folding it into their main site. :(

Check out TheWB sometime - there are very few shows aimed at African-Americans. It's almost completely aimed towards teenagers.

  6. Reduce the vibrate mode of the phone on Energy From Vibrations · · Score: 1

If you just reduce the vibrate mode of the phone, you'll conserve power, then you'll be able to talk longer. Why bother trying to recover the vibration when you can just conserve power by REDUCING it in the first place?

For news it would really be:

    CNN vs. Fox

MSNBC has EXTREMELY low ratings and trails both CNN and Fox by a large margin.

  8. one word: Vespa on Buy a Segway... Please · · Score: 1

Buy a freakin' vespa! Yeah, you ride them in the street, but they go fast, are cheaper than a Segway, and you can ride them MUCH farther.

Why would anyone want the limitations of a Segway over the freedom of a scooter?

  9. We have one of these chairs on The Ultimate Chair · · Score: 1
We have one of these chairs in our office here in Atlanta. I don't like it. It seems a bit cheaply made - lots of plastic, not very sturdy, etc. The chair isn't flexible enough for those of us who can't sit still and who like to sit and swivel around a lot. Yes, everything is pretty much adjustable, but at the same time, you are limited to the range of motion which they dictate. For example, sometimes I like to scootch in really close to my desk - with this setup you can't do that.

It looks cool, and the janitors here really like to sit in it and pretend that it's some sort of Space Chair or something, and it certainly gets lots of oohs and aahs, but for me, give me a nice Miller chair and an adjustable desk and I'm happy.
