    um.. bin laden's act was an act of war... dimitri did not kill anyone and as far as i know no one has directly died because of his software either...

    1- i don't know saudi law, but i am guessing mass murder is against it...
    2- also, bin laden's act happened in us jurisdiction... dimitri wrote the software in russia where it is in violation of no russian laws

    i'm not saying that governement is oppression free, but rather the perception of this issue by most is trivial... most people i know either know nothing about these issues or don't think they are important enough to do anything about them...
    personally i see the opression as comming from the corperations through a weak/lame governement rather than a truly opressive govt...

    And if we really think our own government is so evil, why are we still here?

    personally i don't think our government is evil... just filled with greedy incompetents...
    why are we still here? mostly because we are spoiled and complacent (and can't spell)

    Why is it that, when it's the Government's word versus some cracker's, everyone always wants to believe the cracker?

    this this case i believe the "cracker" simply because he's being charged with breaking a law that doesn't apply in his country... this is about as silly was an american gun maker/seller being arrested in japan for making/selling guns in the us...

    sounds to me like the gov't is just trying to cover what they finaly realised to be a big mistake on their part... now they need to make it look like they are going easy on him out of sympathy or his "cooperation."

    i also remember in another article (can't remember where), his employer even offered to stand trial in his stead if they released dimitry... i found that to be quite admirable myself

    the problem i see with the civil disobedience argument is this:
    sure it's unjust, sure the corperations are buying laws that are taking advantage of us, but... how many people are willing to go to jail over downloading music?
    i know the issue is much bigger than that, but the music is the imediate reward and i don't think many people see beyond that. this is not about slavery or an oppresive governement (well not yet)
    although it would be nice if those ftc charged price fixing violations were enforced too .)

    well not really, but i think that's where ms is headed with x-box... it's already got the pc internals, a striped down os, an ethernet connecor... it just needs software really (.net??)
    ingenious really... if you're willing to wait a few years... heck sony might be doing the same with ps3...

    the funny thing i see about it all is ms' accusations as to why embedded linux wont work are basically critisms that only point to linux being weak on the desktop...
    - no ie
    - no media player
    - no plethora of drivers
    - no big company support for end users

    etc etc...

    i think it's a good thing if we don't ever suceed in human cloning.
    would a human clone be a real person?
    or would i be considered to be a creation owned by said lab?
    does that mean we have slavery of sorts again?
    are the clones going to end up being exact copies of the donor?
    how does one account ofr personality?
    how will we tell clones apart from people born?
    should we do so?
    how will the world put up with two of me?
    all important questions that should be asked and answered first before the problem arises...

    i just really hope the "rebel" states get their way and the loop holes in the settlement are fixed...
    as for the selection of th eofficers... why does the convicted party get to chose who is going to tell them when they can't break anymore laws?

    "nah, he's lost his job..."
    "see if he wants to to help us comply with the settlement... there's good money in it for him if he plays ball..."

    of course this only gets worse if you have to do this on multiple machines... i wish they had an "save patches for later install feature" one that would just cram all of the patches you select into an executable...
    you still gotta go to each machine and do it, but it's better than dowloading it for each machine (or going to the ms web site and downaloding each and ever patch and saving each one... *sigh*

    of course then we have the other end of the spectrum... with auto patches that you don't even see being installed... i'm sure our security personel would just love tons of updates flying past the firewalls through some ie backdoor...

    just a thought... but how much longer will they support ie5.5? for those of us who don't want to get their new "Xperience" and for that matter media player 6.4 (which is all you really need) hw much longer before those of us who liked their older more basic products are left with the choice:

    upgrade to our new monolithic scheme

    stay with the old app, that will soon no longer work because we are purposly chaning all the protocols and good luck with the security holes we're leaving you with
    i honestly like some ms products, but their policies and carelessness are just too much sometimes...

    well i'm hoping you are right. the dcma, really needs to go... the riaa needs someone to slap them into reality... so does ms and the bsa (no i don't mean the boy scouts of america... although they need a few sips fromt he reality pot too)

    but the other issue i'm not sure if you caught it... he's been charged with breaking a us law on russian soil... no matter what the us law is justifiable or not, how can we (the us) enforce our laws outside of our jusisdiction?

    My Question is: once he's in russia how will they get him back? I mean Dimitri is a Russian citizen who was (imho) unfairly imprisioned by the US... personally i would go to my gov and ask them for some kind of sanctuary from extratiction... what garuntee does he have that they wont arrest him again if he doesn't say exactly what they want him to say?

    i wonder what kinds of stores sell them.. but then again this is japan... you can probably find them at the sanrio stores...

    ok my apologies for that... i guess i missed the reviews on those boards (anyone got links) i'm usually halfway decent about keeping up with new chipsets

    yes i know the nforce is dual channel ddr, but it still needs work...

    one thought i had was dual channel ddr with an smp athlon board since the nforce really doesn't seem to take much advantage of it

    also consider that ddr is untested (well on th eopen market) with p4s... we don't know if it will work well at all. ddr wont give as high a bandwidth as dual channel rd-ram... will that small amount less be a bottleneck? who knows for now.. i say wait and see and then judge if the maybe $100 you save is worth it

    of course dual channel ddr-sdram... gah... drool..

    not to contratict you or anything, but unless you are going to bring the extra drive back and forth periodically (and often) it still doesn't address the issue of someone accidentally deleting things (in between the time the extra drive is brought back).
