Oh, like maybe OtherOS will return? I would like that.
So would Sony. I used to buy DLC & rent video via PSN.
That was before their feature-stealing "upgrade" was required to let me log in.
Of course, so far Sony has been too stupid to know whats actually in their own best interests.
I've owned 3 Nokia phones. My current unit is an N900, which is wonderful for a software engineer.
Apparently this will be my last Nokia device. All the work on their Linux infrastructure... discarded.
Good bye Nokia.
We have a war on 2 fronts, a damaged economy and climate change. Still congress has the free cycles to sell out the public interest in return for some bribes (I mean lobbying fees).
Maybe we should fire them? Anybody have a list of which representatives supported this?
After all, they're supposed to be representing their constituents.
Apparently, so do many of my co-workers whether they know it or not.
I was in a meeting the other day where everyone brought their laptops.
All of us with glossy screens (Macbooks) were crowded to one side of the conference table so the window wouldn't be behind us. Those with matte (ThinkPads) screens were unconcened.
Sony won't let us log in to the Playstation network until we install their OS update 3.21.
However, this "upgrade" disables linux (the "Other OS" feature).
I refuse to allow Sony to remotely delete this option, so downloadable content is not an option for my family.
Cleverly, Sony is also preventing me from buying or renting films or other content.
Well, that's their call.
Someone with points, please un-troll this. Just because we don't like what they are saying or just because they are partly wrong does not make this a troll.
Open Source projects often ARE incomplete. The author often codes enough to solve their problem, then shares what they've got with the world. This is a good thing and benefits us all but to non-tech users or less-experienced engineers it's just unfinished code.
No mention of built-in rumble that I can see. No GBA, no can use rumble pak.:-( Tactile feedback is good. Sony recently learnt this lesson the hard way.
TiVo users can grab hold of the latest version of Desktop (Windows only, we're afraid) and ... and I'm done. Linux or Mac or release the specs so we can do it ourselves, please.
I once worked at a now defunct major PC maker in the late 80s/early 90s.
They developed a notebook computer. There were 2 flavors: one used an Intel low-power 386 chip, and the other an AMD low-power 286. (They were going to use an Intel low-power 286, but Intel canceled the chip.)
The next month, they got shorted their allotment of 486 chips. Which meant that they couldn't ship all the desktop computers they'd built. There was no 2nd source for 486 chips. I was told that Intel was very clear why this happened. I think the AMD version was soon discontinued.
Not long after, Intel was investigated for this sort of thing. When the authorities contacted this company, they were so afraid of Intel that they denied anything like this had happened to them.
In our case it was perhaps a little more understandable.
The other student was a friend and we'd been collaborating on a project.
We had adopted common naming conventions, etc.
Our code was virtually identical. I know it sounds unlikely but it does happen.
I use gaim on Linux.
Yahoo doesn't want me on their network.
I'm OK with that. I dropped my Yahoo account. My friends now use either AIM or jabber to talk to me.
I'm using an older Cisco (Aeronet )340 base station and PCMCIA card at home. At work we have the 350 basestations and a mix of 340 & 350 cards. We also have some IBM notebooks with "built-in" mini-pci Aeronet cards.
All work for me from my notebook (IBM T30). I'm running RedHat 7.3 and the Cisco Linux drivers.
However, I have heard that installing the latest Windows driver will "upgrade" the card firmware in such a way that it won't work with the Linux driver anymore. Some folks have had to down grade. Perhaps this has been fixed by now?
Annoyingly, it seems the Win driver will re-update the card whenever it is booted. This is only a problem for those with dual-boot notebooks.
I ordered mine directly from their web site cisco.com.
Two series of adventure games that were fun and intelligent.
The Journeyman games included:
The Journeyman Project
Buried in Time
The Legacy of Time
They were all good, #'s 2 & 3 being great. My wife and I would team up to play.
My first Tex Murphy game was Under a Killing Moon. Involving and sometimes hilarious. This was followed by The Pandora Directive, which was very cool and somewhat scarier.
Sadly, Microsoft acquired Access Software for other titles, and cut the funding to the Tex Murphy games. Another reason to hate Redmond.
I disagree. Sometimes the truth inflames people. That doesn't make it a Troll.
Here's an off-topic example: we're currently at war because of the 4,000 who tragically died on 9/11.
This was a tragedy, and does deserve action. I do not dispute this.
Last year, Helms and friends helped kill ~400,000 with tobacco. That's more than 9/11 every four days. We're track to lose ~420,000 this year. More next year. And the next.
The national response is... taxes and public service stops. Something is out of proportion.
Of course, Al Quaeda didn't contribute to Helms' election...

I do use it on the handful of domains I admin.

Unfortunately I must disagree. The actual moral is: Don't help someone in British Columbia.
I hope wifi support has been improved.
The DS & Lite only do WEP; no TKIP or other modern security protocols are currently supported.

That's a similar scenario. May I ask a question?
Did the sales rep tell you this before you were buying, or after you'd gone into production?
Interesting: what are the criteria?
As it happens one sits in my office as a dust collector. My tape measure says:
Width: 11.25"
Depth: 9"
Thick: 2.25"
I've read on-line that the weight is ~6.5 lbs.
Larger than most notebooks of today, but still I think a notebook.

Neither Sony, Microsoft nor Nintendo will allow a game to be published in the US for their systems above a certain content rating (AO, I believe).
For example the video game Manhunt 2 got an AO. It couldn't be published until the offending material was removed.
That sure seems like censorship to me.

>then there is NO WAY TO DEFINE A 32 BIT VALUE
Can't speak for Opteron, but on our 64-bit sparc that would be a short.
Here are a few results:
Byte Bit
Type Size Size
---- ----- -----
char 1 8
int 4 32
short 2 16
long 8 64
void* 8 64
