Anon was a bunch of hardened 4chan trolls herding an army of impressionable kids into their own living botnet. At least this guy doesn't make others do the hard work and bear the risk of prison instead of him. That being said, his "sophisticated" political ideas, such as:

I wanted to strike a small blow at the system...I don't want to be the lone hacker fighting the system.

aren't exactly new. Just like the punks of old, "hacktivists" use the same ill defined phrases to try and create an ideology around vandalism.

  9. Firefox isn't going to be succesful if they try to compete with Chrome on their turf. People who want a browser that "just shows webpages" will use Chrome anyway. On the other hand, after Opera's suicide and Microsoft's identity crisis FF could try to win back some popularity by attracting the power users. And while there might not be that many users of advanced features, it's vital for every browser to attract web developers. Especially when we seem to be heading towards a post-standards web, being the developer's platform of choice means that most webpages will support your browser.

  11. I've read TFA twice and I'm still not sure whether Google uses the patent in question in an offensive or a defensive way. Surely countersuing against a patent litigation with patents of your own is rightful self defence. Countersuing with patents against a copyright litigation is very different though. And even if Google is only purchasing these patents for defence, it is giving funds to patent trolls by buying from them, making filing bogus patents a lucrative business.

Web access is ok when you have only one email address, but when you have an address for your job/university/organisation(s) you belong to, it quickly becomes unmanageable. Not to mention many of those addresses have a bad web UI or none at all. I certainly believe you haven't used an email client in a decade, because most of the problems you mentioned have been solved long ago, at least in Thunderbird anyway. It definitely starts faster and has fewer bugs than a browser. It has a profile system like FF, allowing you to copy your configs across multiple machines. I honestly don't know what your problem with IMAP is, it addresses the issues you said and I'm yet to encounter any of its "horrors".
