Copyright infringement is just another excuse to drum up more industry. 'Cyber' security / anti-terror - it's all the same to me; not to mention the other industries that benefit off the scraps.. such as IP law.
The government are paranoid about it's citizens; the money that flows from the pockets of it's citizens go into the pockets of corporations that implement solutions - two birds with one stone; the US, and even the UK to an extent, are waist deep in lobbyist bullshit after all.
This, to me, is the tell tale signs of an emerging far right system of governance. It's not the government we are fighting - it's the system of extreme capital and greed - where does it stop?
There are two paths, major changes at an ideological level or continue fighting the good fight. The war on drugs was never won and never will be. Digital proliferation is a whole different ballgame - they will not be fighting criminals but ghosts.
One sure way to neutralise a possible impending digital distopian future is through obfuscation - you don't have to hide if enough false positives are produced to set their heads spinning. Worms of the future may not steal your financial data but, instead, send 'the man' out searching for an endless stream false positives and legal dead ends - have them fighting their own system.:>
I'm really sick of hearing how all these places in the UK other than Scotland are getting their fair share of this broadband money - 1GBps networks being rolled out - London's 100mb planned networks already assured of upgrades. Every other English city seems bet getting 100mb networks; right down to the smallest village - but yet, in Scotland, most places barely even have 1mb lines; my sister barely gets 20 kbps and she lives less than 15 miles from a city of 100, 000 people. we don't all live in Glasgow you know.
I, and most of the country, will be voting YES come the referendum in 2014. Let's see your NHS and fibre optic dreams stay afloat when we take back our North Sea gold.:)
More like out and out racist..

I'm sorry, maybe jail is a bit harsh, but two things:
1) If you had said that in public then there is a good chance you would be jailed.
2) He was chucked off is degree course because he is now an inmate at his local prison - not for being racist.
I'm all for freedom of speech and keeping big brother out of the interwebs but.. If you are stupid enough to say something like that then you are probably stupid enough to make your identity known.
The digital Pearl Harbour. Only nerds know and talk about this stuff; everyone else thinks you are a crackpot or just a sad little nerd. Yet, give it five years and everyone else will be moaning on Facebook...
"Ozzie also thinks Microsoft's future as a company is strongly tied to Windows 8's reception. 'If Windows 8 shifts in a form that people really want to buy the product, the company will have a great future"
I really want to punch this guy. Nobody buys Windows out of choice; they buy it because, in most cases, it's the ONLY product people are aware of.
Why? Because most of the planet still use IE6 that's why. The option "do not track" in Firefox is also off by default; 'preferences' a place where 80% of the internet see as the nerdy underworld. This suits advertisers because most people are of the opinion - "I just don't have time to sit down all day and learn these things". Let them do such, it keeps it free for the rest of us.
Either way - their objectives are anti-liberal. I think it's a joke that you call your current office 'liberal'. It's the same in my country, the UK, we call our current office Labour; initially because they were a 'liberal' working class party - but since the early 90's, when 'New' Labour was formed, they have been nothing more than slightly-left conservatives with aspirations to shift right.
There is no real distinction between them. They inherit a system of rules and policies that are difficult for them to change but believe me, if they could rewrite the rule book, in this day and age, it would suit their pocket and their financier buddies alone. Democracy is a joke.. Here's two candidates and a flawed system. You get one vote every 4 years and you can forget referendums. War and law are tools of oppression when capital is at the wheel.
How about that for irony. If this succeeds it will be +1 for the internet. I love how people are actually taking a stand; I just hope it's enough for things like ACTA which will or will not be ratified next week..
Although the power of corporations scare me; I do support actions for good. I am not easily manipulated but if the wankers who govern our respective countries fail it's people, with typical old skool ignorance, then maybe someone with invested interest, and a bit of muscle, should step up to the plate.
The open web isn't just important for me and you, it's in essence a fundamental constituent of modern society. Don't let the internet turn into the brain washing, one-sided, commercial, shit that makes it onto tv.
That will obviously be part of the negotiation but - rationale being my sole assumption here - the tax will flow into our coffers.

Same old tactics - your security is at risk and here is a solution. People don't think rationally when confronted with fear.

...Is the only way to do it. Not 100% accurate but it can be done.
