The "old" and "need more players" aspect is certainly true. While I was playing, it was only boring if I was stuck walking a long distance.

There are new MMOFPS games coming out this year and so Sony probably is trying to attract subscribers before they release. The most anticipated of these new games is almost certainly Huxley.

I read the same thing somewhere. Those stupid B monster movies get SciFi high ratings. Then I tried to guess what demographic would enjoy watching recently filmed B monster movies.

Decided my sanity would be better off not going there.

Led by Ghost Hunters, the SCI FI Wednesday block of "alternative reality series" also drew big numbers, with double- and triple-digit increases among young adults. The channel's Saturday action movies helped out with such hits as "Pterodactyl," which became SCI FI's highest-rated original movie ever with more than 3.1 million viewers.

In spite of stiff competition from network premieres, the Stargate SG-1 finale and a new episode of Battlestar Galactica were the top two cable entertainment programs among persons 25 to 54 on September 16. A week later, the mid-season finale of Galactica drew 2.3 million viewers and became the number one entertainment program on cable for the night in the same demographic.

The jointly funded effort will result in a publicly available knowledge-base summarizing both the research and market development activities associated with the possible use of digital games for maintaining healthy minds.
With an increasingly aging population in many developed countries the field of cognitive exercise is growing. Advocates of cognitive exercise say it is equally important for people to exercise their minds as well as their bodies. In Japan, a series of popular brain exercise games for Nintendo's DS platform have been major commercial successes.
So this study is to help healthcare professionals justify hooking up old people with a PC or perhaps handhelds to play casual games.

This parent apparently never played Planetside. Think BF2 but on a larger scale.

    1) Guns make the FPS.
    2) You have sides and small teams to accomplish missions.
    3) Your overall goal is to capture territory.
    4) Each of the 3 Planetside factions have unique weapons and vehicles. This did lead to a lot of balance complaints. The developers tried to address these complaints over time.
    5) Unfair fights do not ruin the overall experience in a MMOFPS. You just learn to avoid putting yourself in these situations.
    6) I'm not sure what your saying with #6. Planetside lets you level up your character so that you can do more things and use better weapons. There are no traditional possessions to acquire to better your character.

    Other ideas:
    7) In Planetside lag wasn't a major problem even in large battles.
    8) I could see MMOFPS crafting being fun as long as it isn't a major timesink.
    9) Large MMOFPS battles can be amazing. Chaos on a grand scale. Small team tactics should be what a MMOFPS is designed around.

  9. Re:EVE sounds worse than RL. on The Deadly Dollar of Eve Online · · Score: 1

Yeah, I agree there is no hand holding in Eve. I played back when it was first released. Eve has very nice graphics but the gameplay isn't for everyone. Spend weeks getting a good ship, lose it in less than a minute to a player pirate or a bit of lag.

Back then a significant problem was in letting newbs into your corp. Is it a throwaway alt of somebody who is looking to rip you off? Or is a legitimate player who will be an asset for your organization.

I was hoping that the devs would add an account lookup feature to see stats on an account's characters. Since multiple characters per account is so standard nowadays, I knew they would never go to a one character per account policy.

The market for HD format would eat into their profit since the bandwidth costs would be higher even with P2P and customers would have to wait longer for their download.

Personally, I hardly ever need to check reviews by the time a PC game has hit stores. I'll know way before that point if I'm interested in buying or not. Everything gets preview'd beforehand. If somehow a stinker slips by me and onto my PC, I'll return it if possible and get my money back.
