I suggest you take a look outside? Due to my continued inability to find a job of ANY kind I will be homeless come Friday at 5pm. Granted I am in South Dakota and it's not a great place to try to find a job, there are many out of work techies searching desperately for good IT work when none exists.
they'd just fire you and hire someone else. If you are unwilling especialy now there will be 10 other people willing to do it and take your job if you aren't.
I thought that is why we have e-mail, "hum, I want to work with that at home, I'll just e-mail it to myself."
or worse... what happens when someone realizes that instead of a 500 dollar mp3 player... they can use a 5 cent floppy disk! Lord no! we must eliminate such things.
When I don't have my weekly doses of Farscape I tend to shrivel up and have problems, you know, computer crashes, IRS audits, girls hating me... it's a good thing that will now end tonight!!!
My personal philosophy is to save anything that could save my rear (someone ordering me to do something that I may not think is right as well as my documented objection) and be careful to remove anything that could be used against me. I would expect that many would think this way.
I agree with you in part, how ever just posting a link to the source code breaks the law unfortunately. I agree that things such as this should be discussed and looked into in an open society, but things like the DMCA close it.
Just think... if 2600 got in trouble for linking to DeCSS code... just imagine what will happen to Slashdot for linking to this awful illegal code. Look away people or you too will be arrested and brought in to court!
What happens when oil prices go up again? This doesn't seem to smart in lue of how the oil industry has been latly, we need to get away from use of oil, not find new uses... 10 bucks says this project was funded by Shell.
Should we hold the Wright brothers responsible for all of the deaths the airplane has brought, or Smith and Wesson for deaths due to guns? Reguardless of why he made the program, he made it under Russian laws which require you to be able to make a back up copy, when Adobe released something in Russia that you could not make a back up copy of they broke Russian law... I think it's time the Russians arrest some Adobe Execs.
Even if he did break US laws, he did so outside of the boarders of the US where we have no jurisdiction... it is like killing someone in Canada and being arrested and charged for the crime in the US... that is illegal. Also similar to General Manuel Noreaga, remember him? We kidnapped him from his own sovereign nation to bring him back to the US to stand trial... illegal? It is, however we did it and he still is in jail.
I whole heatedly agree... I go from coming up with brilliant battle plans in RA2 or evil tactics in Counter-Strike. All that time gives me this blood lust... now this study proves that when I go and kill someone in a creative way I'm just acting out the games.
What ever happened to the idea that the Olympics would open up the country. Would someone please remind me why they got the Olympics again? I thought it was a stupid decision in the first place... things like this just help to prove it (to me).
If it were Clippy... I would drive to the Grand Canyon just to drive off of it to kill Clippy... yea, I might die... but I would take Clippy with me!!!
Maybe if they were to spend a little less time worrying about people who write code, they'd find Chandra Levy.
It's odd, traditionally in our country, violent crimes are investigated more then white collar crimes, in the case of the DMCA, victimless crimes... what makes a DMCA violation so awful? There is the potential for harm, but me running with a pair of scissors poses much more of a threat.
Maybe this would help force people like Microsoft to do more testing to make sure that such obvious and less then obvious holes and risks do not ship or get patched into their products.

I have never thrown out a single computer... heck in my dorm room alone I have 4 computers running doing my bidding. I know I cannot be alone in this.

I'd be curious to know about the person who wrote this article as there were many horrible spelling errors!

If my brain wasn't so horribly deformed from all of my gaming growing up... I'd kick their ass and show them just how wrong they are, lol.
give me a break, give me 10 min, a C compiler and a text editor and I'll make you one, lol.

Mmm... if they build these... I will replace the voice with that of Hal from 2001 and spend a little time giving it the attitude of Hal.
Computer, unlock doors.
I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
yep, and I quickly make legal back up copys of all that I buy, course, the MPAA and RIAA would claim what I am doing is illegal, oh well, let em come.

Now all I need is a half a million bucks and I'd have the potential for one hell of a beowulf cluster... so... who wants to pitch in?
Since when was VMWare open source?
