The Hacks just prove that there is a rush to implement new technology without considering the security implications of the tech.
This is just history repeating itself. Every company wants to be the first to announce this brand new, 'cool' feature, but none will wait for the 'geeks' to test it for security issues.
You know that with those profiles, you can password protect them so to remove it, you would need to provide a password. Good for an IT dept that doesn't want users messing with the device configs, but if a 3rd party like this one password protected the profile, you 'd never get it off without a full factory reset.
Last time I looked at the 'Teleportation' Feature of Virtual Box, it did work, but required quite a bit of work on the admin to prep a new host to receive the Virtual host. IIRC, the new host OS had to have a VM prepared with all settings matching for the Virtual Host to teleport correctly. There were also smaller errors that could be worked around, but still present. It may have matured since then, but I remember it was troublesome.
I'm a fan of Virtual Box. Don't get me wrong. But when I'm asked to spec out a product for a large deployment, Vmware is my usual choice unless budget constraints force me into Xen.
VirtualBox and VMWare ESXi hosts are 2 different products. If you need a small 1-4 PC environment for testing or coding or whatever, run from a PC or server for free... virtualbox is the way to go.
For a large enterprise, Virtbox will not cut it. Lack of many of the features that esxi has for centralized data, moving virtual hosts between physical hosts... HA, etc...
Citrix Xen Server is a nice alternative, but still lacks the maturity of vmware.
Give the US time..... Removal of all unions and government protections for workers in the name of "job-creating-free-enterprise", and we can also achieve that #0% number as well.
They are worried that free hotspots would interfere with their Wifi Monopoly inside the stadium.
Nothing to see here.... The police are protecting the interests of the powers that be. Please pay us the 5.99 and only post how totally awesome and great the venue is today.
>> I guess you now need to put a firewall in front of your router.
A cisco Firewall.. lol
Actually, the firewall would have to allow 443 outbound from the router's IP (I assume the router is NAT'ing). Thus defeating the 'firewall' since the 'router monitoring' will probably be over 443 anyway. It's probably like trying to block Skype.... time for deep packet inspection....
No - you can't control when the government seizes your hardware. But the point here is that if you use the 'cloud' as your storage or sole backup, your trusting your data to another service.
Unlike Megaupload which stored other peoples data and allows 'sharing', if you 'own' your own servers, you control the data, the backups, can write backups to out of state servers you also own....
What irks me alot is the computer based application process. Turning to these electronic forms helps companies prove they accept applications from diverse backgrounds (see those optional questions on race, etc... in every online application).
The problem with alot of us (I assume) is that when I fill out that form, I can't put down that I have a degree. So when a position is opened, it's almost 100% that someone wants a BA degree as a qualification. Even though I might have all the exact experience and skills needed.....
One short SQL query of the application pool and I am eliminated. My resume will never show up because of that stupid field.
I've taken to filling in the Degree as 'yes' and for the 'name of the school' I put ' self trained with 15 years exp..'
That at least gets me through the stupid query and gets my name in front of someones face.
I've actually been called back because such a simple thing like this get's someone's attention.
I've worked for employers that have let me take training and get certifications in exchange for a 2 year agreement not to quit on them in exchange for them paying the bill and supplying the work time for the classes.
>>Strawberries. If strawberries cost $1 a pound a grocer can sell ten times as many as if they cost $2 per pound. But strawberries are very labor intensive to grow and harvest. US immigration restrictions combined with a booming Mexican economy have reduced the number of people willing to pick strawberries for low wages. So why don't the growers pay more? It is simple: if they pay more then they have to raise the price of the strawberries to the point where few people will buy them
But according to the Tea Party and the GOP, if you stop all illegal immigrants from taking those jobs, those jobs will go to americans willing to pick strawberries for $1 per hour.... what....... Americans want a decent wage...... health care and benefits....?...maybe people will pay a little more for strawberries then........ oh, we can import strawberries from another country for less, huh....... GOP sucks.
Sounds like you want a programmer who understands network protocols. Security clearance is just some paperwork and a background check.
Think about on the job training. i.e. I have years of protocol work and net ops (among other things), but lack programming skills beyond scripting. You could probably get someone like me if you offered training in the skillset.
https://www.duckduckgo.com/ - problem solved.

Karma is a bitch.... isn't it Apple?
How you like a taste of your own medicine?

Just turn them off. Same thing we do with Window Servers. Download updated but let me choose when to install them.

Use GPG, no one has the private keys except for me and the remote party.
GPG with K-9 on my android works just fine.

The head researcher will STILL come to IT and ask them to please help him sync his outlook contacts to his phone.
Run virtual box, use your own image, proxy to your home over Stunnel, browse without being traced......

Yeah, I want a piece of that too....
Don't forget...
3) Super-Pacs / Political Advertisers
4) Non-profits and charity
And the U.S. Government seizes those domains in 5..4..3..2..
Hell, back in the 40's you would just walk on a plane.
Looking at the site, there is a 'remove' option in the privacy link.
http://www.spokeo.com/privacy
I wonder if it actually removes you or if they just add your ip to the list of info. i.e. "Likes using Firefox"

Don't work in I.T. do ya?
It is the most thankless job in any company next to Janitor.
People only call you when something breaks.
No one claps you on the back saying, "Yo, great uptime on that server last month". You hear "why doesn't my iphone sync contacts".... bleh.
Right. It all depends on where you live more than how you live.
50k/year in NYC, you are basically working poor.
50k/year in Costa Rica, you live like a king.

I thought it a very fair deal.
