Tell me about it. HyperCard was also my first computer related experience, and I loved it. I remember making little RPGs that me and my grade school friends would play. I used to do dynamic animations using grids of 32x32 black & white button icons... ha ha.
Yeah, but with what? Online access or whatever Sony has that splits the controller ports (multi-tap)? Personally, my console system is for playing with real people-- in the same room. I've got my PC for Diablo 2, StarCraft, Half Life, ect... And I sure don't want to buy some expensive peripherals to do something that Sony should have done in the first place. Why the hell didn't they just have 4 ports? Every other console has it. Even those from the previous generation.
Is it so bad to tell people that you have a feature in your product before you actually do?
Yes, if the product's creator isn't sure what form the actual feature will take. I'm sure that MS can pull off a lens flare in the final, and I'm sure they can stick in whatever models were abscent from the current version. But what they don't know is what form they will take. Maybe they'll be able to equal the quality of the faked screens, maybe not.
This wouldn't be a problem if they had just mentioned, "these screens are demos of what the final may look like," or something similar.
And just because other people do it doesn't make it right. Don't make me ask you about jumping off a cliff...
Are you trying to imply that, because it is your opinion that this controversy should end, everybody should shut up?
No he's not. He's simply giving a reason as to why he thinks ISPs should considered open carriers. All you're doing is saying that he's stupid.
Why shouldn't he "respond to a statement of fact with a statement of how things *should* be"? It's better to try and correct current problems rather than just accepting them. If you think it's good that ISPs aren't considered open carriers then why don't you give some reasons, instead of being annoying.
The above is a good post, it's funny and true. It's too bad most of you won't be able to see it. Someone really should mod it up.
It's true because unless you yourself are willing to make similar sacrifices as those you demand from pharmaceutical companies, you're a hypocrite. Should they really have to fork over privately owned cash/supplies whenever some 3rd world country is dying of something they might be able to treat? Would you be willing to do the same with your paycheck? If you readily answered "yes" to either of these questions, you're probably a socialist.
Applications have real uses, without the everquest game what you bought is meaningless.
So? Many things of value are useless without something that processes them. A database relating customer demographics with buying patterns is certainly of some worth. But that data is also useless if no database program is around to interpret/export the data in a meaningful way. My DVD collection? A bunch of shiney coasters if not for decoding software/hardware. Even applications are worthless if there's no hardware to run them on.
I have been unable to find official XBox dimensions anywhere, but if the DVD drive is a standard 135mm drive then using ign.com's photos you can approximate the dimensions as follows:
Height ~ 86 mm
Width ~ 334 mm (Front face)
Length ~ 274 mm (Side length)
This makes the XBox the biggest console of 'em all. By volume:
I agree with you completely, an album is a work of art and I only buy an album if I am satisfied with it as a whole. I not only pay for the music I like, but actually take joy in it. It allows the artists I enjoy to continue producing great music.
But sadly the majority of people I know have a "sweet, free music" mentality. Clearly musicians cannot allow the population to self-regulate itself. I don't have any solutions, but I think there need to be some changes to the current system.
My biggest gripe is that most of the cash raised by album sales do not go to the artist, but rather to the record label. I hope this changes in the current shakeup.
I don't think turning consoles into mini-PCs is what most console gamers want. The whole beauty of the console is a fixed hardware setup. This lets you buy a game, pop in it the tray, and be ready to play in appromixately 3 seconds.
For my PC, it's great I can expand it as new hardware becomes available. It's good that I can install any kind of software I want. But for my PS2/XBox/DC/NGC I don't want to mess with that. I love my console because it functions like a toy, or even a DVD player -- it always works for any title.
The last thing I want to invade my console is patches *cough* Diablo II *cough*, illegal operations, or not enough RAM on my video card.
Hypercard makes me gush with fond memories

you can theoretically have up to 10 on the PS2

It's a behemoth!
I'm happy that you liked it, but I couldn't stand it. I actually stopped reading half way through because the writer was so over-dramatic.
Try RagingSearch if you like AltaVista but don't like all the web portal nonsense:

Besides Rare, Nintendo also has Retro Studios, Left Field, and the recently acquired Silicon Knights.

I'm thinking Super Smash Brothers with Sonic & crew... now that'd be fun!
