For some organizations, it is a weighted risk. Which would be worse: some random car thief thinking he stole somebody's 8-track collection, or not being able to find/remember the right password to restore the data in a legit DR situation?
Although, even with my defending them above I have to ask... WTF was going on with tapes left alone in an employee's car? Most places use a data storage company to transfer and store tapes.
Also, Axway's Raley was either misquoted or she's an idiot. What is Tricare using that makes tape encryption so difficult? Usually the difference between encrypting and not is just a checking a box and entering a password. May slow down an already tedious process of backing up/restoring, but definitely isn't difficult to implement.
I'm one of those who uses VMware on a daily basis, and who is interested to see how others are receiving the release of 5.0. I'm currently running 4.1 on a group of 6 physical servers. VMs automagically migrating from one host to another based on resource requirements was pretty cool, storage vmotion was even better. With 5.0 I'm really looking forward to trying out the storage DRS, which was the logical next step.
For the benefit of others who haven't actually read the O'Reilly story yet, Mr. Orwant makes reference to finding "pictures of naked people playing lawn darts", hence Timothy's "that's-me-with-the-darts dept." comment.
Why do I get the feeling swarms of people are going to be trying to find "lawn darts" on freenet now?
Actually, resistance IS futile. When you send in that cable bill, and HBO gets it's money, what do you think they do with it? Yep, they pay the movies industry for the rights to the latest flicks. Same goes for broadcast television, only they are getting your support from the commercials you watch (well, technically, I guess this would be OK as long as you aren't a Nielson family). You're still lining the industries' pockets, you're just offloading the guilt to the cable companies/tv stations.
My temporary solution? I've been watching Troma movies and other indie flicks on vhs. Sure, with Troma you're not going to get the big stars and bigger special effects, but most of their movies are enjoyable, and you're supporting the oldest and most well established alternative to the MPAA in america. Hell, these guys don't even have SAG cards. Also, rent and buy these indie films from a local mom-and-pop shop, not MPAA buddies like blockbuster/suncoast/roadrunner/etc.
Have I been weak and given in to temptation? Yep. It's happened a couple of times, and likely will happen again eventually. The important thing is don't give 'em any more than you have to, spread the word (and not just to your fellow geeks who know the situation...the general public has no idea what is going on), and keep fighting the good fight.
Merely a flesh wound. Thanks to Ken Sain's 4th Congressional campaign, we will now be an officially recognized party in Kentucky, and I'm sure similar steps towards equal footing are being taken across the country. Less than 5% doesn't mean we go away: it just means we go door to door rather than throw money at tv ads.
Personally, I would love to see 5 or 6 (or more) "major" political parties in america. Voting the lesser of two evils sucks donkey dick. Having our mailing lists spammed by the "Greens for Gore" campaign sucked even more.
As for the "commmunism" comment... I don't care what you call it. Obviously, you are a U.S. citizen who hasn't come to terms with the cold war being over. Universal healthcare? Yeah, that's a communist idea, but not necessarily a bad one. You've got to remember: most of these "communist" countries are actually thinly veiled dictatorships. Fuck it. I've been up for over 40 hours and don't feel like arguing all my points. Maybe later.
Actually, when I see Bush, I keep thinking of "The Dead Zone". For those who aren't familiar with King, that's the one that has a political zealot who is wacko enough to start WW3, but chicken shit enough to use a baby as a human shield. Same thing happens when I look at Indiana's 9th congressional candidate Michael Bailey (who thankfully was soundly defeated by Baron Hill).
And get arrested for necrophilia.
Too soon?

en.wikipedia.org is currently using TLS 1.0.
Go fuck yourself, Sony.
Is that statement clear enough to meet requirement 4?

Lemme guess... the filter thinks Metallica and Dr. Dre are just fine and dandy?

just doesn't have the same "feel" to it, eh?

Honest about it? You mean like the honest way he hid that drunk driving conviction from everybody (including his own family)?
