Starting with the incompetent, wasteful and corrupt government. There's a reason DC isn't a state... they can't govern themselves well enough to be one.
If the RIAA/MPAA want to tell me I can't do either of those I'll gladly tell them where they can shove their bright ideas.
Yeah, but when their bitch (Congress) sends Federal agents knocking at your door for violating their bought-and-paid-for legislation, I don't the RIAA is going to be doing the shoving...
Fortunately there are a few in Congress that are not so corrupt as to roll over and pass such an egregiously unconstitutional law.
And if they do, don't count on the Supreme Court. They just ruled that poor people aren't allowed to own property... I'm sure they don't give a damn about people like you and me.
There's plenty of good new music out there... more than I can afford to buy, and I buy _a lot_. And guess what, almost all of it is not sold by RIAA members. Nor does it have copy protection. Don't let the mass-market suits force tasteless gruel down your gullet. Explore. Expand. Experience.
and yet half of all MS developers are still using VS6. I know all the Windows clients I work for still use it. The MS compiler might be a lot better now, but I haven't heard much good about the IDE.
More bloat and hassle, just like everything else MS does.
Posting "Spelling Nazi" rants against what was almost certainly a mere typo makes you look really pathetic. You know, allot of people will loose respect for you if you insist on continuing this rediculous beavior.
What if a cosmic ray flips an A to a G or a T to a C (insert appropriate genetic terminology here). If I understand correctly, there are plenty of outside influences that could alter the genetics after conception.
Microsoft does not support running non-Windows OS's on VirtualPC, but you can. It runs just about every flavor of Linux, DOS, and tons of other more obscure OS's.
I've heard that MS plans to support running Linux on VPC in the future, but I don't know if that's true. I run SUSE on Virtual PC and it works just fine.
I understand the relativity of language, and that I cannot expect it to remain static. Indeed, a linguist would look at both of our gramatical mistakes a simple data points for the current evolution of language. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't resist the watering down of perfectly good technical words by people who fundamentally don't understand them. We've already lost "abstraction" and "paradigm" to marketers. It's embarassing to everyone involved when people are accused of intellectual laziness.
I've be 40 for about 6 months now, and I don't want to stop. Well, I'll have to stop in another six months, but I'll be sure to complain about it.
I have some seriously old pillows, and they are probably more spore than fluff, but I have not been able to find ones as good as the ones my Mom bought us shortly after we were married. Of course, since I'm allergic to pollen and dust (and seem to have a mild allergy to matter in general), it would probably help if I did something about it.
I'd really like to just whisk my anti-bacterial cold plasma pencil over it in the morning to keep the spores from reproducing in the first place. Or maybe just hit with Professor Farnsworth F-Ray.
I watched "Family Guy" a few times... almost all of the funny bits were complete rip-off of Homer Simpson. The rest was just sad, having to resort to "TV-14" in place of actual jokes.
POV rocks! I've been playing with it on and off since version 0.5 in 1992. In fact, that was the sole reason why I bought a 486DX instead of the cheaper SX.
Ah, the memories.
Back around 98 or 99, I used POV-Ray and image maps from NASA, etc, similar to Blue Marble and sticker stock to print up realistic-looking planets and some of the larger moons for my son's bedroom wall (they're still up too). At the time, I couldn't find a good enough and high-resolution enough image of Earth (of all places). A year or two later I was finally able to find a big Earth... and now I could make one the size of my house, if I wanted to!:-)
You know, it amazes me that so many in the/. crowd are barking for the Kyoto Treaty and other political nonsense while at the same time complaining how the government can't ever do anything right.
When is the last time a law was passed for any reason other than to give the appearance of doing something, regardless of the effect it might have? And how are these treaties any different? After all, it's not their money they are spending.
I'm not questioning the absolute amount in dollars. I just think you grossly underestimate what the rest of the world does. Regardless, the guy's doing some good in the world, assuming the money is being put to good use. That's not always true with, e.g., U.S. foreign aid or U.N. programs.
But then you need a new couch. My problem is the kids inadvertantly (but constantly) leaving little gifts for the bug parties on the floor in the kitchen, the family room... sometimes even my office. Good thing it's getting cold now, the bugs have stopped partying. Wish I could say the same for the Big Parties.
While I don't want to diminish the fact that the Gates have done a lot of good, I think your claim is a gross exaggeration. While they may have given more than any other individuals, being the richest people in the world, I think you are off by a couple orders of magnitude.
Still, the personal actions of Mr. Gates and his wife have no bearing on the company that helped him to become the world's richest man. I'm glad he's doing some good in the world, but the ends don't justify the means, and his personal life in no way reflects on Microsoft as a company or his actions as a driving force thereof.
Major parts need to be 'dozed into the river.

I dunno, from what I've seen in many cases, Europe is half a generation _ahead_ of the U.S. in the downward slide.

I thought you could evolve yourself by sitting on the microwave. Or maybe licking your grandad's old glow-in-the-dark watch (with radium!).
That's the way it works on TV!

No. It could take place afterwards...
What if a cosmic ray flips an A to a G or a T to a C (insert appropriate genetic terminology here). If I understand correctly, there are plenty of outside influences that could alter the genetics after conception.
I remember when we had to evolve opposible thumbs before we could pick up the dull stone axes. You've led a sheltered, cushy life.
I would bet that becoming politically aware is the biggest cause of political apathy.

I'm holding out for purple.
Heh. No, but it sure sounds like it, doesn't it?
I knew I would eventually have a justification for being a slob.
"But I don't want the kids to grow up with compromised immune systems. It won't hurt if they eat a few bugs along with those Cheerios on the floor."

I agree. "Family Guy" sucks.
Wow, I thought I woke up in an alternate universe when the sun rose in the West this morning. Now I know I'm right.

No, it's just a title.

"Meta-satirists"?
Is that the new name for people who steal all their funny bits from "The Simpsons"?

I'd love to give you a +10 Insightful.

and the audio stack being brought into user land...
Won't that make it easier to subvert DRM? Not that it seems to be very hard in the first place...
