Actually, I thought of this movie, wherein a time machine is created using (apparently) only a small airplane and an old microcomputer (Apple II, C64 or something similar). We learn the key to time travel can be stored on 7 5-1/4" floppies.
Wow, given how much time Alice and Bob spend trying to keep Eve from listening in on their conversations, I'm surprised they have time to have other interests.
You're not alone. I watched part of the new premiere, and yes, some of it was amusing, but mostly it's because the character of Peter is eassentially a carbon-copy of Homer Simpsons (and please people, spare me the empassioned expurgations of the subtle differences).
The talking dog... the baby with a British accent... dull, predictable and lame.
A better analogy would be if the filing cabinets were left out in the parking lot.
If I spray paint my salary on my front door, I can't complain when my neighbors know how much money I make. Even if I do something like "I make $100^2" instead of $10000.
Was it unethical? I'd have to say yes, but who hasn't hacked URL's if for no other reason than to navigate a poorly designed site.
I found an online vendor who put the price in the URL, I was able to put items in by shopping basket for any price I wanted. I didn't try to buy them like that, and I notified both the vendor and the maker of the web commerce package.
Ironically, the vendor did not seem concerned. They figured if someone tried that they would notice.
My sister and I did the same thing but with the Eastern Airlines "If You Had Wings" ride at Disneyworld. Why? Two reasons... first it actually was pretty cool, and second, you didn't need a ticket to ride it.
This was back in the days of A, B, C, D, and E tickets.
That song still goes through my head 30 years later.
Believe it or not, when it comes to something other than pr0n, it can take 11 minutes to find something. Your search was very broad, to the point where typing in URLs at random could have found you what you wanted in 13 seconds.
I was being sarcastic. However, from what people are saying here, RDP seems to be worth checking out.
However, most of our machines actually run Win2k, it's about 2:1 2k over XP and we are a small enough company that upgrading to XP would be cost prohibitive for the benefits. 2k works great, we only use XP on those boxes that came with it.
In fact, one reason we recommend Windows XP for many applications over, say Mac OS X, is the ability to remote into machines easily and with built-in software.
Yeah because higher costs, Microsoft lock-in, constant security issues and greater hardware difficulties are less trouble than installing VNC.
Don't get me wrong, I use XP too, but you're argument sounds pretty lame to me. I never messed with Remote Desktop because I've been using VNC for many years without a hitch.
Yeah, MDI sucks and tabbed browsing gets rid of the suckiness and leaves the useful bits.
MDI was always awkward and ugly from day one, but it was a step in the evolution of windowing. Of course, the current state of Office is no better: One icon for each document of, say, Excel, and one other icon for, um, the app? It just doesn't make sense why there are n + 1 icons for n open documents where n > 1. And if you click on the X button of an Excel window, whoops, you've closed all instances of the app. Very intuitive.
I tell ya, UI development has gone backwards since the late 90's.
The President would need the backbone to convince the public that him vetoing a badly written bill is the Congress' fault, not his.
Yup. Except more important than backbone would be, I dunno, mass hypnosis or something. There's no way that message could get through the MSM and the sound bite machine. Not just because the President is a Republican, but because the MSM are idiots.
Yeah, but that requires backbone. You've got a very valid point though. I hadn't thought of it that way. The problem is that then you get the opposition party running around "The President vetoed funding the troops! He must hate this country!" or "The President vetoed the Porridge for War Orphans Appropriation Act. He must hate needy children!"
And it would work too, because no one would listen to the real reason it was vetoed. Of course, a good president wouldn't worry about superficial appearences over substance, but then that kind of attitude would never get you elected in the first place.
Was the Tandy 100 that little dealie about the size of hardcover book, with an LCD display that was about 8" x 3" and had something like 8k of RAM?
If so, that was a cool little machine. Never got to play with one though.
As far as "talking down", no it's not that at all. It's that he's held up as being some kind of computer pioneer, when in fact he's really a business pioneer. He's held up as some kind of ubernerd, when in fact he's really a suit. A very, very talented suit, but still a suit.
There is no doubt that billg was hugely influential in Microsoft's worldwide success, but after MS BASIC 1.0 for the Altair (or whatever it was), what, if any technical contributions did he make? I know he's still some kind of "technology architect" but that could mean anything.
I guess the ultimate question I've never had adequately answered is that while we know he's a business whiz, is there any real evidence that billg is a computer whiz? Besides looking the part I mean.

Firefox can make and use those shortcuts.
.. Mmmmmmm, code...
Besides how can you look at pr0n with all that code out there.
I think it's a typo. The camera really is 800mm in diameter. To paraphrase Futurama...
Patient: I can't swallow something 800mm in diameter!
Doctor: Well, it's a good thing this is a suppository.
Yeah, well, the university can just invoke DCMA and everyone goes to jail.
And even though that really isn't true, it probably will be soon.
Wow, given how much time Alice and Bob spend trying to keep Eve from listening in on their conversations, I'm surprised they have time to have other interests.
Interesting idea, but the Borg really lost it for me when they introduced Hugh, the lovable Borg with puppy-dog eyes.
and generate a WMA file in one of ten thousand gorgeously rendered synthetic voices
They might now have 10000 synthetic voices, but I bet they still all sound like GORF.
Firefox can run happy because it isnt part of the OS which is good and bad. Good for security, bad for features and speed.
Yeah, and we all know how much faster and how many more features IE has.

Habeas Corpus is a good thing worth writting about. ;-)

Sounds typical for that show. Someone might think it's funny and clever (after all it came back after being cancelled), but it ain't me.
I prefer Futurama's slang... take a rage dump, mon.

Unclear paranthetical clauses make Slashdot cry.
But bad spelling will never raise an eyebrow.

If she wants geek factor, buy her a big ol' 3-carat dilithium crystal!

But if you're still listening to Swedish music, it doesn't matter.
p.s. Actually, Swedish music is awesome... groups like Anglagard, A.C.T., Karmakanic, Kaipa and the granddaddy of them all: The Flower Kings
