Then form your own group to do the opposite. Write the FCC and tell them you like to see Justin Mouthbreather sexually assault Janet Hasbeen. I bet you could find plenty of folks around here to join your group.

I personally do what you recommend. I don't watch much network TV. Besides, since MST3K and Futurama were cancelled there's not much worth watching.

I realize that. So where are the "backup" and "restore" features? I use robocopy from the appropriate directory, but it would be nice if this were implemented in the app. When I reinstalled after replacing a harddrive, I had to find the data store, copy it, and after I reinstalled Thunderbird, copy that directory back in and pray it would actually work.

Fortunately it did, but this is not user-friendly by any definition.

It is a little sluggish, however, it's still an order of magnitude (literally) faster than Outlook when both have a large message store.

Outlook was taking 30 seconds or more to open a folder, which was one of the reasons I dropped it for Thunderbird several months ago.

Ironically, Outlook Express never had this kind of problem.

I only turn off ads when they annoy me. You know what annoys me? Ads that are friggin Flash games. It's really difficult to read text when you all these flying objects moving around in the next frame over. I have no problems with static ads and will happily view them and even click on them when I am interested.

But some of these epileptic-fit-inducing ads just make me work all the harder to eliminate them.

This is all part of capitalism. Adapt or die.

Or do I have to wander the maze of twisty little directories in Microsoft's "Documents and Settings" directory to find where it stores mail.

Remember, it's in "Application Data" and not "Local Settings\Application Data", and also please note all these directories for hidden for some stupid reason.

I'd be happy if I could just specify where the data is stored like most apps (even Microsoft ones).

Don't get me wrong, I love using Thunderbird and switched from Outlook shortly after I realized how deeply flawed it was (despite having a good UI and spam filtering), around version 0.5.

Anyhow, congrats to the Mozilla team for another excellent release. But please, give us some data store management.

True, but I wanted to point out that it was not a grammatical error per se, as the parent poster had stated. Although to me, "Congress were" sounds awkward, there are plenty of instances where the same kind of construction actually sounds better to my ears.

It reminds me of the time at work someone was busting on an article that used the "-ise" suffix (like "organise") wondering how they could make such a mistake. I pointed out that "-ise" was actually the correct spelling in English English (c.f. American English). They were all surprised by that and even more so that I would actually know it. It wasn't the kind of place where people read a lot of books (defense contractor). I'm glad I was only there a few months.

Also, an actual on-topic point: Just because most FCC complaints come from this one group doesn't mean they don't have a point. I, for one, am often offended by things on broadcast TV. It's a shame that those media that use the public airwaves think they must descent into smut, violence and crudity to compete with cable, satellite, etc. Here's a hint: Try making some good shows for a change. There are several shows I watch on network TV that I think are excellent, but most of it isn't worth the paper it takes up in the TV Guide listings.
