Partitioning and reducing the number of eyes on data is a good idea. Re-checking the people with access to the most sensitive information is a good idea. Blanket orders from higher up administration who do not understand the problem, BAD IDEA. 'Automation' that could allow one person (with access legit or not) to get to even more information than before, recipe for disaster.

Seems like someone from upper management saw a presentation on this subject (from a vendor) and now thinks they know everything.

As a former reseller and heavy previous buyer from their sister company Evertek.com, we slowed our pace greatly when geeks.com came out as they were undercutting us on many deals straight to the consumer. They also sometimes kept stock on geeks.com that they sold out on evertek.com which left us with a bad taste.

    It is fraud.

No, they don't. There is a difference between optimizing a system and overclocking just for specific benchmark apps. Samsung could get fraud charges on this one if they advertised or published the benchmarked speed. It is less obvious if they did not do the publishing themselves.

"The industry analysts and pundits have been predicting this for ages: that while Apple led for ages, and reaped windfall profits as a consequence, there would be a stampede into the smartphone market, and Google would barge in, turn smartphones into a commodity, and crush Apple's margins."

Wake me up when this happens. So far it has not. Apple sold MORE phones this quarter than before with a 36%+ profit margin. Apple makes more profit in smart phones then all other players combined. Sure, it is time for Apple to come out with something new, but it will be a long time before the IOS/iPhone platform is not hugely profitable. If Apple introduces a new iPhone in time for sales this quarter they will continue to GAIN market share in the USA and in many other countries.

The main reason why people destroy perfectly good machines out instead of giving them to someone like me (or charity) is fear of the type of behavior shown.

And for god sakes, you do not need to DESTROY the hard drive. Zero writing is fine for anything not containing national security level secrets.

Even a properly blacklisted iPhone 5 is worth well over $200 for parts or for export into an area where blacklisting does not apply. To slow this type of violent crime the police and courts need to treat it more seriously. It is easy to spot an iPhone 5 and you would be hard pressed to find quickly an easier way to steal $200. Few used car radios or even flatscreen TVs are worth that on the hot market.

People who violently steal a cellphone should be put in jail the FIRST TIME for at least a year maybe more. In Maryland that is certainly not the case now. If you do not use a gun in the crime you probably won't go to jail even when caught with good evidence. The police also loath to investigate where a stolen phone is from GPS tracking information. They should do this at least in some conditions such as a well documented theft.
